I think it is only an insult to people that would be embarrased to be associated with the concept of being very dedicated to the bible.

If you believe the Bible is the source of all truth and wisdom, I see no harm in that term. If you mean it literally, then someone is actually hugging their bible, that's not such a bad thing either, it's better than a lot of other alternatives.

It's not crude or offenseive to me in anyway. I love the Lord and have held my Bible close both figuratively and literally. I truly doubt that any Christian feels offense by being called by any name that associates them with Christ.
What I don't understand is why people like you who ask questions like this think that this would be an offensive term to a Christian.

Well, regardless of being crude or not, I don't think it's really accurate or effective because a bible isn't big enough to "hug".

"Bible-thumper" is the classic term that has always done reasonably well.

I don't hug my Bible, it just imformation about the God who loved me and saved me and has given me eternal life. Personally I am proud to be a Biblisists and terms such as you mention make me feel good. I am not in the least ashamed of my belief in the Bible or that I am a Bible thumper. If we don't thump our Bibles many of you will be lost for all eternity. Many people in heaven will thank those who led them to Christ through the Bible as I will do for the one who led me to eternal life.

Hmm are you asking if Bible-Hugger is offensive?.... lol.... why would I be offended by that?....awww did you secretly hug your Bible today? ... Cuz ya know it's really ok if ya did.

If that's the worst I'd ever been called I'd be doing just great.

I've never hugged mine, but you know it might be the closest thing on Earth to hugging God on Earth--after receiving Jesus in the Eucharist or spending time with the Blessed Sacrament.
