If its that the pigment has just gone from these areas then it sounds like vertaligro. This is a reasonably common condition (I know a couple personally) and is harmless and non transmittable. The only thing is that these people have to protect their patches from the sun carefully as they burn very easily. The other thing is the way it looks and people's reaction to it if it is on a prominant area. Doctors cannot help with this condition so its down to cosmetics to cover it where possible.
If your friend's patches are any more different than just having lost pigment (raised surface, change is skin texture, different sensations etc) then get her to see a doctor.

This could be a skin condition which is quite normal and completely not contagious. It could also be due to the fat that she uses steroids (if she does) these often havethis effect on skin even in small doses such as asthma inhalers. In any case as long as she has been to the doctors and has had them checked out u have nothing to worry about!

I know there is a skin condition that causes white patches that eventually spread all over the body til the person is completely white. they sometimes use that as an exuse for michael jacksons skin. probably not contagious, but see a doctor, there is no guarantee.

Hi i also suffer with this problem im under the hospital Dermatology dept they told me it is the loss off pigments in your skin and theres not alot they can do,no treatment available im afraid.Mine has got worst over the yrs larger and spread also.I do actually cover mine with a fake tan it works wonders this all depends on the colour off your friends skin off course, get her to go to her Drs ist then he will more then likely refer her to the Dermatology Dept and she will see one off the consultants there,if not there nothing to worry about this does take time to spread ive had mine for yrs and its has spread alittle.Tell your friend good luck.Oh yes its not catching either. Its not a disease,

She needs to eat beans, a good source of iron. Lack of iron may lead to skin abnormalities. Get her to the nearest Taco Bell.

Could be vitiligo, which is not contagious but can have other problems associated with it. She needs to see a doctor! To make sure she gets the right treatment for her.

Mkay,,,does she work with any acids or base chemicals that could be the sign of a burn mark? Is she black and has she seen a doctor? Could they be the leftovers from a bad sunburn?
