Don't get me wrong here, I'm not an atheist. I'm very much a Catholic. I just happen to have this question and thought I might post it to see how people think about it. I personally don't think God is silent. Because if He is, then people would not be talking, erupting volcanoes not roaring, etc. etc.

People perceive God to be some being, separate from ourselves that lives in the sky and watches over us. If someone could talk to God, that would make it an object/subject relationship, which would mean we are separate from God. God is everything. Literally everything that exists and doesnt exist. God is the very process of creation itself. So, God is silent and not silent at the same time. He creates noise and he creates silence.

God is silent in that revelation has ended with the finishing of the Bible about 1900 years ago. At that time we were commanded to add nothing to it or take anything away from it. Therefore God is not giving anymore revelation at this time and therefore, in that sense, He is silent. God does speak today through the Holy Spirit who gives insight into His Word, the Bible and through that gives direction for us. There is no need for God to speak because according to the Book of Peter, all that we need for life and godliness is already writen in His Word. Direction for life and its decisions will come through the Bible which we are commanded to study. We are told in 1 Corinthians not to go beyond and exceed what is written.

If you mean literally, then i would say yes.He does not ring you up and talk to you.But there are ways that he communicate with you.You know he is omnipotent and i believe in that because more than once in my life i had heard him talk to me in the form of my mother, friends or just a stranger. But mostly i have heard him talk as my conscience and whenever i had failed to listen to that i had landed miserably in something but he had gotten me out of that too.I believe that he talks to you if you lend an ear to him and you too talk to him.I have faith in him and i love him.

sounds a bit deist to me...

I think God is still working and doing things - what's the use in all that creative power if you are just going to sit back and watch people destroy everything you set up.

He is not only silent but invisible and non-existent, in fact he is a fiction and totally fabricated.

Silent? What does that mean? If you mean not talking then, I don't know, but he talks to me, so he isn't truly silent. However, if you mean inactive, then he certainly is not inactive,,,

Certainly, He is not, but you can't still hear Him, you're not qualified to.
