I don't think American English is "learned". If you already speak English (that is, British English), then learning the American version is just a matter of curiousity and being alert. Listening to different prononciation, noticing when a word is used differently...

Call the Adult Education School in your community. They offer classes that are free or almost free. It's easier to learn in a group like a classroom that alone. Good luck and Welcome to America.
