They don't have accurate knowledge of what is really going on and going to happen. It's easier to deny than acknowledge. A sure foundation from where such statements are born. To deny certain things they think it gives them the right AND the excuse to carry on in their bad ways.

People will only think about it when they know their days are numbered.
On their death bed, they will only realised that they have done many evil things and start to regret, hoping to get forgiveness.
I remember many years back that a man kidnapped a famous actress's daughter and killed her. At the court, he has no sense of remorse. It's only when he knows that he is going to die, he was guilty stricken, ask for forgiveness for the things he'd done to the poor girl. He even wanted to donate his organs to the needy.
But......
Those who done a lot of good deeds, won't worry about it.

The fact is that I DO care where I go. I don't want to go to the Christian heaven. If prudish, biblethumping, nosy, obsessive, judgemental, hypocritical, and mindless Christians are going to be in one place for all eternity - I am going to avoid that place like the plague. Jesus sounds like a boring, goody-two-shoes eunich, and god was an evil mass murderer who killed off humans instead of working out his grievances. Screw that.....heaven is my version of hell. Blech.

Because there is no evidence of an afterlife.
Plus I have strived to live a moral life. If your god does not want a moral person to be around him then I would rather go were the moral people are.

Mark Twain was once asked whether he feared death. He said that he did not, in view of the fact that he had been dead for billions and billions of years before he was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.
