There are lots of options, check the papers and magazines ect. Better still go to an internet cafe and check them out online. Lots of mobile phone companies are offering free internet broadband if you join them. Good luck :O)

For a start not enough information. You can't use somebody else username as you don't have broadband active on your line, this isn't dial up.

If you have a wireless card look for an unencrypted network close enough to piggyback onto, however be careful. I leave my wireless network unencrypted but I check regularly to see if anybody who shouldn't be is using it. If I found you on my connection you would be spending a lot more on fixing your computer after I had finished than it would have cost you to get broadband in the first place.

You sound like you know very little about the Internet, if you start trying to rip people off and pick the wrong person they will destroy your computer for you. From the sounds of your question I would say you can't defend yourself from this so stay legal.

Have a look on the net for the best packages, many are dependant of where you live. Beware of the "free broadband" deals most of them are a huge rip off. I work for a broadband supplier and constantly get phone calls from people who have been suckered by these deals.

You must understand that although it says it's 'wireless', your main PC is wired into a router. The router takes the signal from your broadband telephone line and splits it firstly by wire to your main PC (actually you can wire up to four PCs) and then all other PCs/Laptops etc are fitted with a "dongle" which is the silly name for a combined aerial and modem, thus enabling them to use the b/b facility without a direct connection to it.
You'll need to buy a router, and a 'dongle' for all other machines you wish to connect to the system - i.e. you WON'T need one for the wired-in machines.
Don't get an illegal outfit, get a decent one from either your b/b supplier or one of the High Street electronics/computer shops. I recently got a BT set, and although the printed instructions were absolutely crap (if well intentioned!), like so many other things regarding computers, they assume that you know what you're doing. I didn't, and made a right ****-up of it all, but I have to say that their help-line person was so helpful in making sure that both our PC and the laptop were correctly installed and working that we almost invited her round for tea that afternoon!
Bloody Yahoo - those four stars - all I said was C o c k -up. What strange Americans. but then they pixilate bare bottoms on their TV shows too!

BUY a wireless adaptor for as little as £12 but you can pay much more - shop around. Ebay is a good place to buy it.

You can buy a USB adaptor or if you have a LAPTOP, a card version that will fit a SLOT on the laptop.

Once you have it set up, all you need is to connect to the wireless NETWORK - you might need her PASSWORD for that if the wireless router is password protected. It SHOULD be.

If you want to access each other's hard disks, printers etc then you need to set up a network -use Network connection Wizard on each PC. Give all computers the same WORKGROUP name. That's it.

Good Luck....

If there is already wireless in the house, all you need is a pci or usb add on card for your computer, windoze xp will configure it for you so all you should have to do is log in via Internet explorer or equivalent.

Dont forget that wireless systems are rarely setup correctly and are usually left open to outside access, firewalls protect the computer but do not restrict access to the isp itself.

If you don't care its illegal, get a modem, and set it up with someone elses user name and password. Then you ride their account piggy back for free. Sssshhh........

As for wireless, you must already have a router and a wireless adaptor or pc card. You're sly, but not that silly.

and don't forget to get properly kitted out with anti-virus and firewall software if you've never had the net on your pc, or you could find it turning into a disaster...
