Despite some answers given, do NOT chew on an aspirin or place it next to the tooth.
The active ingrediant in Aspirin is Salicylic Acid which causes a lovely chemical burn on the gingiva if left on it.
If you are going to take Aspirin take it as per the manufacturers instructions.
Best toothache remedy is to go see a dentist.

You can actually put an aspirin or Tylenol right on the tooth that hurts.
I home remedy is to bite down, gently, on a clove with the tooth that hurts.
If you have some type of whiskey you can swish it around in your mouth also.
I also found that actually Massaging the tooth with a tooth brush makes it hurt less.

ibuprofen works best for pain and swelling.
take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.
keep the mouth as clean as possible-brush after eating anything and try to avoid chewing on the side where the toothache is

this one isnt quick, but is works really really good. ok, first of all, buy a tube of orajel with NO MENTHOL. dry out the contents of the tube on a peice of aluminum foil. this should take around 22 hours. then, take the powder and put a large amount of it straight onto your sore. it should last a day if you dont chew vigoursly. if your house is humid, it wont form right, and tooth medicine has benzocaine in it, (made from the same plant as cocain) so thats why if you let it dry, it will numb out your mouth and have a lasting effect. dont sniff the powder, ive never tried it, but it will probably mess you up.

Some of these people are so ignorant..whatever you do, don't put an asprin directly on the tooth. That will burn your mouth. I heard the clove placed directly on the affected tooth works good. Try that.

Try saltwater. I think it should help. Or maybe that's sore throats. It helps one of those or both. If the pain is in your gums it'll help for sure.
