The point of an after life is that u get rewarded for what u did in this life. should a murderer and a person that devoted themselves to god be treated the same? and wehn u are in heaven which i hope we all are, you cant feel sad mad or angry, everything is beautiful, so theres no way ur family could be in hell and ur aware of it,i mean its different everything is possible...think of it like a fareytale,or maybe a science ficton movie where u just think that can never happen..well God can make evrything happen, its just somthing our minds cant comprehend all the way...just keep the faith and never doubt God... Im sure ull be taken good care of if you get to go to heaven.
May Allah be with you all , and may you all find the peace that comes within when you believe.

I am a non-believer and I asked a similar question not too long ago:

1) A lot of believers are mistaken that everyone they love is going to Heaven. This is not necessarily true.
2) The killer is that you would be so happy in Heaven that you woud "forget" about any other misery that loved ones have in Hell. So, your own eternal happiness is really the most important thing.
Logically, there is no point in trying to convert or help others as long as YOU are "saved". You would be happy no matter what.
Acerus, above, sums up why people believe in an after-life very well.

A it would suck if everyone is down in the fiery depths. But if they aren't I would think the purpose of an afterlife is so that you aren't just free floating around earth being a lost soul. But I also believe in reincarnation, so that could be a possibility to getting out of living forever. At least for a short time.

That's the time where you can be with your creator. That's the first plan actually, but because of sin it was changed. And you will not remember someone who is not in heaven. That's why it's full of joy. You have to past, only a future.

the afterlife is being with god, and thats not really an afterlife because that is the original state of our soul - where we came from and where we will return when we die. its really being human on earth that is "unnatural" really.
and besides, there is no hell

Afterlife is an invention by humans scared to die. The want to have continual consciousness scared them into belief that there is more.
