I tried installing the software and it says (msgme.exe) or something like that is open and that program needs to be shut down so I close that program, windows messenger I think is what it is, and I also turn of my virus software too, because it complains about that, yet it still keeps popping up unable to program because windows messenger is on??? I don't even know what windows messenger is or what it does??? Anybody ever had this problem??? Please help!!! Thanks

The instant messaging (IM) client in Windows XP. It is the XP counterpart to MSN Messenger, which is available for other versions of Windows, PDAs and the Mac. It uses the .NET Messenger Service (formerly MSN Messenger Service) to let users with Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger communicate over the Internet. Organizations can use the instant messaging capabilities in Microsoft Exchange 2000 to set up a private IM system.

Disabling the Messenger Service

To prevent anyone on the Internet from generating pop-up messages on your computer, you can disable the Messenger service. You can restart the service easily at a later time if you decide to use it.

Windows XP Professional

1. Click Start-> Settings -> Control Panel
2. Click Administrative Tools
3. Click Services
4. Double-click Services
5. Scroll down and highlight Messenger
6. Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties
7. Click the STOP button
8. Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
9. Click OK

Windows XP Home

1. Click Start-> Settings -> Control Panel

4. Double-click Services

2. Double-click Administrative Tools
3. Select Services-> Double-click on Messenger
4. In the Messenger Properties window, select Stop
5. Choose Disable as the Startup Type
6. Click OK
