who said it was evil?
I don't believe in a certian god, i believe that there is a devine power somewhere, but i am responsible for all my choices. I am a good person because i believe in the goodness in people, not because the bible tells me too. I wake up and try to do what makes me happy, as long as i don't harm others, not because god tells me to, but because i choose. It sounds like you believe there is a god, and as long as you believe in that there really is no seperating because he will always be there. Just because there is a god doesn't mean he is ruling you, you are always your own ruler, and you can chose to believe in a faith or not. You are not evil if you chose your own path, at least you are thinking for yourself and not going with the first crowd that calls to you.

It is not evil to use your free will to attempt to live separately from the Supreme, however it is incredibly foolish, actually it is impossible to separate from the Supreme.
What happens is the original Spiritual identity becomes "illusioned" into thinking that there is no God, this illusion manifests via the material energy that covers or shrouds the original consciousness.
So you can imagine your name is Lucifer and imagine that you have a particular identity, the material energy, which is an agent of the Supreme will even give you an "A" grade education to create an argument that your position is correct, you can live here in the material world transmigrating from one material body to another, trying to extract happiness from material sense gratification eternally if you desire it.

Hell is a hard concept for anyone to understand.
It's not pleasant, doesn't seem fair, gives you no choice ultimately,
But, God made this universe, God knows more than we do, he made the rules, the rules are the only way because they are created FOR us, not in-spite of us.
I know it's really hard when you want to be your own person, live your own experience, do what you believe is right and not what you don't...but ultimately there is only one right answer if you believe there is a God (and even if you don't there's still only one right answer)
God's rules are there to guide us and help us through life, not make it more difficult. Being human isn't easy, especially in todays world, but sometimes you can let yourself go so far down, the only way to look is up. The ways of this world aren't happiness, and there are many people that could tell you that.

I left church for 12 years because I didn't want to go against what I was feeling - and that was the God I was hearing about was a nasty big perve with a stick ready to hit people for giggles.
I'm in a different church now - one that lets you ask questions and confront people when what they say sounds hollow or stupid.
The God I follow wants me to be me - without the hang-ups and depression and anxiety disorders.
I say - check out the god you are following - its probably a bad one that doesn't fit your own ethos rather than someone strong and merciful.

Because only God is Good, Truth, and Light. The definition of Evil, Darkness, and Lies is merely the absence of God. If you choose to be separate from God, then you choose Evil, Darkness, and Lies.

Well the way i see it. God is there in order to make sure that you don't hurt yourself or others. that is why he/she put the threat of eternal damnation there.

Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself. you are free to make choices, but there are laws of the universe and laws require a consequences for actions and choices. IF you turn from God you are subject to devil, there is nothing in this world that is not acted upon. Whatever you choose, you're bound to its consequences. Go for it... run ... you're forever indebted to God for your existence. You're free to choose Him or choose the devil. God only gives the consequences. Even He's bound to that eternal law.

it's not evil...it's just not possible.
but you have all the freedom in the world anyway. god would be the last one to stop you doing what you want to do - as everything on the planet is just a tiny part of the entire everything (god)

it isnt a sin to want to do your own thing. but anytime away from god would be a terrible thing. God brings joy, peace, happyness, and everything else that is great. why would you want to seperate from the only true good thing?

Because you are a created being, created by God. This is what happened to Satan. He forgot to thank his creator for being created and began to think he was more important than God who created him. Adam and Eve fell into sin because they to wanted to be free of God's guideance for a brief moment and chose to do what they wanted to do. We are children of God. Like children of man, we do not know what is best for us. That is why children have parnets to look out for them. God wants to look out for us as well. You would do well to thank God for your very existance. Without his love in creating you, you would not be here tonight wishing you were "free". =)
