If it only takes you 15 or 30 minutes to fall asleep, honestly, consider yourself lucky, cause it takes some people HOURS to fall asleep. What I usually do to fall asleep is read. Others watch TV but that just keeps me awake. Just find a routine that works for you, and stick with it each night, don't drastically change your routine or bedtime every day or it will be impossible to sleep. EDIT: And I agree with Ray D. Writing down thoughts before you go to bed is helpful because it keeps your mind from racing and helps it to calm down so you can sleep. It can be as simple as a list of things you need to do the next day (what I do) to a complete diary. Whatever works for you.

I take a half dose of NyQuil if I really have trouble getting to sleep. I usually always have NyQuil around.
