Potty training a puppy is what it is , if you don't get it right, you will never be able to trust your dog in the house for any long periods of time, or short for that matter. Your puppy will pee in the house and poop. It's what you do with the waste that will matter.
Make the puppy watch you clean up the mess, all the while ***** about it , he will pick up your anger vibe and all they really want to do is please you, so as you take the puppy outside have the poop or pee paper towel in your hand next to their nose, don't shove their face in it , simply throw the waste in the exact corner of the yard that you would like him to do his business at. And that is where you take him 4 or more times a day. This will give him pleanty of chances for it to be the right time to go. I can't poop on cue can you? No you go when you gotta go. Of course praise when he does good, Oh and most importantly make sure you clean up the excrement real good , then douse it with white vinager, this will not appeal to their very sensitive nose
Good Luck and be consistant

as i have said before and got best answer for... :) Well first things first remember your dog picks up and reacts on your emotions much like a little child may. I have found the easist way for me is to just take your puppy outside every20-30 minutes if its a young pup longer for older but especially after they wake and eat/drink or when you see the signs. until you get the response you want then praise praise praise. have a treat ready and tell him good boy. And when they actually do the act say good boy potty (and repeat it so they put the act and word together).... POTTY or whatever you want to call it. After a bit start asking it if it wants to go potty ask it in a happy playful voice and try and get a response....i.e. them barking going to the door.... that means they are getting it and they will remember to let you know they need to go. If you are cathcing him in the act startle (not scare) him so he will stop and talk him outside or to the papers right away and once again prasie and say good boy point so they can start to figure it out. If all else fails and you can't catch him in time look for the signs. pacing circling sniffing trying to hide from your veiw nudging you and you cant figure out why.... Even if they don't go to to potty when you think they are trying to tell you it is still a good thing you took them out. Hope this helps.

It depends how old your puppy is, but you are supposed to feed him/her 3 times a day. Your puppy needs to go outside for pee and poop after every meal. And before bed, then first thing in the morning.

puppy pads, a crate, and taking them outside in the morning, after all meals or naps, and in the evening before bed. You'll start to notice behaviour that will let you know they need to go. (crying, scratching, sniffing)
