First of all, avoid spending big bucks on anybody's weight loss program. Weight control is not a complicated process. You simply watch what you eat and exercise more. It takes time to gain weight and it also takes time to lose it. There are no shortcuts or miracle programs.
Don't try to starve yourself. You may lose a few pounds, but you may also do serious long-term damage to your body. Besides, as soon as you go back to your old way of eating, the pounds will come right back. The key is to change your whole lifestyle, not just go on a diet.
Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and lean meats, but watch your portion sizes. It helps if you break out your daily food intake into five or six small meals, including mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks. Instead of Cokes or Pepsis, drink water -- lots of it.
Avoid fried foods and anything high-fat, like burgers, pizza, ice cream, and all of the other foods that we all love. However, feel free to treat yourself once a week to ease your cravings. If you've been dreaming about pizza all week, then reward yourself with a slice of pizza at the end of the week -- not the whole pie. ;-)
As for exercise, there is nothing better (or cheaper) than walking. Depending on your physical condition, you should try to walk at a brisk pace for at least 15-20 minutes every day. It will help if you set aside a specific time of day to do it, like first thing in the morning or as soon as you get home from work or school. As your fitness level improves, you can increase the pace and distance. Running is fine also, but the physical benefits aren't all that much greater than walking and it places more stress on your bones and joints.
Weight training builds muscle and helps to burn fat. You don't have to join a gym unless it fits your schedule and budget, but you should at least do some research on-line for some good, basic routines. Do a google search for "weight training" and you will find plenty of resources. Weights can be purchased at fairly reasonable prices. If you go that route, you should also consider buying a relatively inexpensive weight bench so that you can more easily do exercises like bench presses, dumbell rows, etc.
Don't expect miracles and don't be discouraged by the occasional setback. As you lose weight you'll have some days when, for no particular reason, you'll gain a pound or two. That is not the time to grab a Big Mac and fries because you're feeling sorry for yourself. Just keep doing what you're doing and before you know it your clothes will be too big and your main concern will be picking out a new wardrobe.
Best of luck, and don't quit!

I went down from 186-7 pounds down to 170,- presently 172 Lbs a year & 1/2 ago.The main thing what I do is, I eat 3 times a day.Occasionally an apple or a pear or a peach in between,- before a meal (lunch & supper)I'd drink a glass of water(to fill the stomach in so I don't stuff myself..)
After supper, or after 7. pm no more food, but if I feel I'm getting hungry,I'd make a mug of herbal tea with no sugar and dump it in. It's disgusting, but that's the only way. I fill up the stomach and I'm happy and I don't complain.
I am rude to myself, and that's what I do.But I enjoy my flat stomach, my jeans fit perfectly and I Iook and feel good. I took photos a couple days ago and I see some abdominals, even though I don't do any crunches or what so ever,no abdominal work outs. I'm lazy like everybody else.
I do feel though that working out the biceps in standing position
works out the stomach muscle enough and when you lose fat, you can see some muscle...I work out just to be in shape.
I wear 32" size jeans comfortably (actually on the hips)and I regularly work out so I look pretty good, while my friends are big dudes with big bellies. They munch on pizza & french fries at 10 pm. And everybody wants to know how, but nobody is willing to do that.I also avoid people with bad habits.
And I don't really care who does what .You have to give up your old ways. It's tough, but you can get used to it.
My stomach size shrank, and I can't handle 2 chicken breasts any more - my former normal fare or 2(home) hamburgers.
But I'm not starving, I'm just controlling myself..Never felt better. Anybody can do it ,just be a little bit rude to yourself !
BTW, give up eating sweets !

while exercising, you will have to switch up your routine, make it more challenging, because your body will adapt to become use to it. To lose weight you have to exercise at a pace so your heart rate is at 70% of maximum heart rate. Otherwise you're just burning off a few calories and not any substantial weight.
