Marines are soldiers, but the truth is no matter how well trained there are character flaws that can appear in a combat situation. I have heard of men who barely made it through basic training and nobody thought they could be counted on when the time came, but they were not only able to do what was needed but went above and beyond the call. I have also heard the exact opposite; men who were leaders throughout their training, that everyone felt was a reliable soldier and when the time came to test their mettle they turned craven. I am not saying this is always the case, but the truth is nobody knows how well prepared they TRULY are for combat until they are put in that situation.
