why can't we all be inward looking and try to be the best person we can be which i hope would include being patient, non-judgemental, and forgiving

Hate and blame are such instinctive human emotions. Kids always try to resolve problems by blaming somebody else, and this teaches antagonism, which harbors hatred. So we view the world in a very black and white way, and enemizing whole groups for their ethnicity, spiritual beliefs, or nationality.
I don't think that tolerance is something that will ever come on people as a whole. But I think that there'll be a moment in every person's life where they have a revelation that the world is not black and white, but in shades of gray. Everybody has good and evil within them, and they just make choices. But we're all human.

I agree. one of the biggest keys to less prejudice is seeing people as unique individuals and not sticking them into a group or category. focusing on the inner self and understanding why a feeling comes up in order to rid oneself of the negativity is also important (it could be from something someone said in your past or a fear of the unknown). Only when you put both things together can you begin to live that kind of life in which prejudice is pushed aside and destroyed. Then a person can focus instead on becoming the best person possible within themselves - and abandoning the jealous competition that at times creates part of the hatred for others. We all have both good and bad, but we can do our best to find a balance, and strive for a best possible inner self.

I think intolerance for other races is a learned behavior. Not an instinctual one. I read an article once where a woman who did not consider herself prejudiced was glad to hear her daughter's school was integrating. Her daughter came home happy and excited because she had a new friend. Very delicately the mother asked "What color is she black or white?" merely out of curiosity. The little girl said "I don't know. I will ask her tomorrow." The mother sat down and thought "d*nm! I just taught her to notice color!" An innocent child, apparently, doesn't even notice such insignificant differences. Interesting no?

I don't learn what I know to be false. The world is evil. Those who believe in God who is Jesus are the good people. Those who don't believe in God who is Jesus are bad. Those who don't believe in God who is Jesus are not looking inward but are pretending to do so. I can be patient with the world and forgiving but I have a Divine Mission to be Judgmental so that those on the path of death will turn to God who is Jesus.

i think people do know that, except they are deluded and ignorant, and happy that way that's why they say biased things or discriminate.
until something big happens to them, then they change their minds, sometimes.
i think a lot of people are trying to be the best they can be but all the negative people get all the attention---just look at the news, all the stupid reality shows, the fact that people in power do bad things and get away with it...

Well i wish the world was a perfect place but unfortunately its not. Im guessing the time this happens is when hell freezes over. All people like us can do is move on with our lives and help people that want to be helped, not fight with people you will never get through to.

people already know. The reason we cannot all be or have the character traits and dispositions you suggest is that we are all products of differing genetic and environmental influence. Further more the traits you suggest are not always those which will insure our long term survival or success. We develope traits which will insure those things for us in our own environments, circumstances, opportunities, etc. which are different for all of us.

For every good there is a bad and without balance all things would collapse and find a place of unexistence.
Just a thought or maybe a past memory.

as wonderful as your question is... its some how produced some nasty answers.... please ignore them.... decent , good people do not see other people that way.. we know there is only one race- the human race... and there is actually more good than bad in it... unfortunately its the bad we hear more about than the good..but there are many wonderful good people that do not see color, religion, sex, income, etc... as ways to judge others... we judge people by their hearts, minds and souls....as much as I wish the others to wake up and see that we are all human kind... it cannot be forced..the best we can do is live our lives by examples and hope and pray that someday it will touch their lives and hearts too...
