1. Lie: my kids won't LISTEN to me.
Truth: my kids won't OBEY me. (Obedience to demands/commands is what parents really want, so why not say what you truly mean?)

2. Lie: when they NEED it, they get a spanking.
Truth: I spank 'em when i NEED TO! (although the kid is 'acting up' - due to inadequate parenting in the first place! - it's really the parent's NEEDS that are satisfied through spanking, beating, etc. - not the kid's.)

3. Lie: we did the best we could with what we knew.
Truth: we were just too lazy and/or ignorant to improve on our parenting skills.

4. Lie: you deserve this (spanking, beating, etc.)
Truth: I (parent) wanted revenge and you're a helpless victim - whereas i'm too COWARDLY to spank/beat anyone bigger! (....because anyone bigger could either hurt you back or call the cops on you!)

Do you tell the truth or is it safer to LIE?

Lie: some times a good smack in the *** is what you really need
Truth: some times a good smack in your (kid's) *** is what I (parent) really need to feel happy, superior, gratified and grown up. (please don't call CPS!)

"The bible syas spare the rod and spoil the child!"
......LOL, the 'bible say' whatever anyone wants it to say.....and has been used to condone torture, murder, incest, rape, theft, grand malice, etc. and even violence against defenseless children by bible thumping parents and school officials!

....say's who?
"and I'm glad my folks loved me enought to spank me!"

I totally agree with everything in your question. I am a new parent and before I had my daughter I made a list of things I would never do and a lot of these were on it. I sont see why a lot of parents lie to their kids. Kids are a lot smarter that people think and it is better that they learn the truth from their parents instead of kids at school because we all know what a distorted version of the truth that would be. And saying that a child deserves to be hit ( and lets face it a beating and spanking are both hitting so one is not necessarily better than the other) is sad. It is basically justifying your bad parenting by saying that the chld is just bad. I believe that children are born with their own personalitites but that they are molded by their parents and families, so if here is no one being bad at home, where would a little kid learn it. If you teach your child no right from the get go they will learn the meanign of the word. I think more parents need to step up and take responsibility for their children instead of [playing the victims and blaming everything on the child.

Beating and spanking are totally seperate things and while alot of it does have to deal w/ aparents frustration it will never the less get the point across to an unruly child about what he/she is or is not expected to do. I agree w/ the second anwser you dont sound like a parent to me, i got a GOOD whooping on multiple occasions when i was little and i thank my parents for it often it really "beat" (lol) my morals and responsibiltys into me, while i dont condone some of the more abusive punishments i received i relize now they were all i would really respond too, and as far as my own son gos, hes still too young to understand what it would mean but spanking is legal and if he deserves it (at a later age)hell get it, not to say i wont try other less physical forms of discipline first but some times a good smack in the *** is what you really need not a "beating" as you pussys like to clasffiy everything, just a spanking
