Jihad should not be confused with Holy War; the latter does not exist in Islam nor will Islam allow its followers to be involved in a Holy War. The latter refers to the Holy War of the Crusaders.
Jihad is not a war to force the faith on others, as many people think of it. It should never be interpreted as a way of compulsion of the belief on others, since there is an explicit verse in the Qur'an that says:"There is no compulsion in religion" Al-Qur'an: Al-Baqarah (2:256).
Jihad is not a defensive war only, but a war against any unjust regime. If such a regime exists, a war is to be waged against the leaders, but not against the people of that country. People should be freed from the unjust regimes and influences so that they can freely choose to believe in Allah.
Not only in peace but also in war Islam prohibits terrorism, kidnapping, and hijacking, when carried against civilians. Whoever commits such violations is considered a murderer in Islam, and is to be punished by the Islamic state. during wars, Islam prohibits Muslim soldiers from harming civilians, women, children, elderly, and the religious men like priests and rabies. It also prohibits cutting down trees and destroying civilian constructions.

Jihad does not technically mean terrorism it is a personal struggle. So literally speaking when I have to choice between right and wrong I'm going through a jihad. Also there are guidelines for jihad on the level that terrorism is considered to be which include no destruction of civilian buidlings, or cutting down of a tree, no killing of a women or child, and various others. As you can see jihad is often misinterpretted.

Remember the conditions that obtained when Muhammad developed the Qur'an. Defense against warring tribes was much more reasonable in the days when the deadliest weapon was a saber than it is now with nuclear weapons around. And, of course, Allah had nothing to do with it.

Jihadists are not defensive in war, but rather offensive. They have declared "holy war" against Jews and other infidels (non-Muslims), and their agenda is to Islamicize the world in a "Convert or Die" campaign. Peace plays no part in their agenda. And "Allah" is an ancient moon god made of stone. Do a search on "allah moon god" and you'll see it for yourself. Stones usually aren't wise.

An interesting question, but I can't answer it - sorry. The grate Allah is also omnipotent, that's what I have been told and also that The Almighty knows what we intend to do and will be doing. If he doesn't stop us to do such dreadful things as what happened in the World, then I think, but I do not want to believe that he has given his account for it.
Dear Brian above, please don't write such things like stupid, a well educated man like you should know better than that.

People kill in self-defense. Nobody wants to sit around and listen to anybody else...Why should they, when they can just kill them in the name of God?
Fyi, Allah IS God. Just a different name.

I guess you have not read the Quran. We are ORDERED to do that but if someone is about to kill you then I think he or she has every single right to self defense, no matter what religion he is from.
