i was born an asian and lived in asia before but i immigrated and stayed in north america for almost ten years now
although i can speak english with no asian accents at all, everytime i talked in english i have to think first then talk
i can't speak like very fluently like the caucasians do
this has become very frustrating because i'm always the slowest to catch on a conversation
so how can i become one with the language like you guys do?
can anyone give me tips?

Don't give up reading or speaking your own language. It's a plus for you to help translate. To help your English, try using the caption on your TV so you can learn to hear and read the English language. Sometimes with actors from Australia, Great Britain and even from the USA, I even have a hard time understanding what they say because of their accent.

If you immigrated with near-zero english knowledge, don't be too worried you haven't fully absorbed it yet. Hey, if you have better english than a 10-year old native, that's OK considering she has a faster absorption rate than you.

Also, while you are constantly exposed to it, you have had no formal instruction on it.

Since language is a skill, the focus of your learning would have to be practice, practice, practice -- hopefully with a person knowledgeable in CORRECT english (this is not always the case). Some formal instruction can't hurt either -- if only for correct practice.

You need to speak English at home. Also watch some TV and movies that have a lot of slang words and phrases in them. You don't have to give up your own language, but to get to be an expert at understanding English, then you have to be proactive in speaking and listening to it every day.

Think English
Like an actor internalize with a role
And take fear from your heart
You keep thinking I' can't
Don't think too much just go with the follow
It seems like if someone speak in English you translate it in your own language in your head then think the answer in your own language that's why your answer is delayed.
most my Asian students are like that.
So I keep telling them think English not in your language

I think you're doing well!
Perhaps imagining you ARE American could help. Pretending to BE a different you, or maybe a certain film-star or whoever, someone you like who is American. Imagine BEING American, and FEEL it.
