Yes there is...
The jack that you are talking about (or the one that works best), plugs into one of the jacks in the back of your headunit. There is a Dual deck that comes with an iPod connector, or you can buy a cable kit online.
With the cable I'm talking about, the one that plugs into the back of your deck, you don't need to worry about FM transmisson, casette player hassles, or sound quality. PLUS with a direct-to-stereo connection you can control your iPod from your stereo's controls, and the head unit displays song information on it's screen if it's an aftermarket unit capable of that kind of display.

The above site is just one idea of several kits you can get. Keep in mind you will need a compatible stereo and a slightly complicated installation.

The above site will walk you through what kits will fit your car.
For a simple way, go with one of the above options. Belikin sells a good one you can buy at BestBuy that plugs into your cigarette lighter. It charges the iPod, FM transmits, and holds the iPod upgright which makes changing songs easy. I've used it and it sucks from time to time because it will cut out and sound like crap.

Above is the site for that unit from SEARS.
Get a direct-to-head unit style, you wont regret it.

If you have an auxillary input available you can buy a cable for like 10-15 bucks that connects to the red and white inputs on the back of the cd player and it just plugs into the top of the ipod. It's a lot better than the fm transmitters.

If there's RCA auxiliary input plugs for the stereo, (for adding sat radio, or a cdchanger for example) you can buy an adapter to go from the ipod's earphone jack to the RCA connection. (about $3 at Radio Shack)
Or, you can buy an FM modulator. It's basically a mini FM radio transmitter that you can tune, and pipe the music in that way.

Some radios have RCA inputs in the back that would let you do this, but most do not. Your best bet is to get a wired FM Modulator. After installation, it allows you to plug your ipod directly into the FM antenna and is world's better than transmitting FM from the device to your cars antenna wirelessly. Once installed, you could put an input plug in the dash to conceal the hardware and make it easy to use your player.

the most popular device i believe, is the itrip. However, the sound quality differs depending on where you live. I never use mine, since I hear more static than music. There's also the cassette kind, I'm not exactly sure how that works. I'm pretty sure there are tons more different and better ways to play your ipod in your car now. try this website-

it's just a search on amazon. Amazon's a great site to look for information on products before you purchase anything. There's also plenty of reviews you can read. Hope that helped a bit.

There is a bunch of ipod accessories that will play in cars, but the cheapest (and ghetto fabulous) is to get the generic kind that has a plug to the headset part of the ipod on one part, and a tape on the other (for tape decks).
FM transmitters skip out sometimes, but work.

i would just get a FM Modulator, it transmits an FM signal to your radio so you can just listen to it through that, instead or wiring up anything. It just plugs into your cigarette lighter. If your radio starts to have a station "break in" on the modulator you can just select a different station to use.

If you have an rca input on your head-unit/stereo you might want to look into buying an iPlug.

if you have an after market head unit, many manufacturers have an adapter for ipods.
If not, your best bet would probably be itrip
