I had to do a system recovery (partial) after I had a virus mess up my computer. I ended up having to use my XP disk to boot because there was a registry problem and it wouldn't load on its own. On the system recovery it said it wouldn't delete my data files, etc, but I have all my music, games, etc, but not anything from MY DOCUMENTS or MY PICS, these are the only pics I have of my children (dumby didn't backup) and I need to know which is the best software to use, etc, to recover these pics. PLEASE HELP!

There are 2 ways you could possibly recover your files:
1.) Search the hard drive for the files...they may still be there. (click start then search on the right side)
2.) Run a file recovery program to see if the missing photos can be restored. You can click here: http://www.download.com/sort/3120-20_4-0-1-6.html?qt=file+recovery&ca=20 to see some of what's available for trial. (They will either let you recover a small number or just let you see what you can recover, and then ask for payment to continue.)

Try to use your computer as little as possible. If you save a lot of new files, it increases the chances of your files being over written and lost forever.

first of all chances of recovering ur 'my documents' are very triflle.
arnd at 3%.

If u still want then use programs like Easy reovery pro or others and scan ur hard disk for deleted or lost files. It will display a list of files try filters of filnemae like ".jpg" etc.

If u have formated ur hard disk then ur chances are even lowered at 1.5% but beware it take a lot of time

And if u want to recover files( considering u have installed ur OS in ur C:) in ur c: that would take hell of time .

My advice install a second os in d or anyother colon and do recover that would be faster and reliable. And stop creating new files in ur os partition since u may complete destroy the chance of recovering ur files or photos.

It relies upon upon your equipment, eg even if Dell, HP etc, which version OS, the way you probably did the equipment fix etc. in case you probably did a fix with the aid of making use of residing house windows/system32/fix/rstrui then depending upon how far back your "checkpoint" become, your files are both purely RELOCATED to the position they initially were, or RENAMED.. if you're making use of Norton or another mechanisms, you also might want to think about that files ought to were QUARANTINED and now and again DELETED. once you've "report UNDELETE" approaches, jointly with those presented with the aid of Norton, you may attempt to experiment for the files and verify out to UNDELETE what's ultimate *in spite of the undeniable fact that* do keep in mind that from the point of fix AND ONWARD that files that are purely ultimate as "ghost fragments" must be TRASHED and lost continuously. this isn't a unmarried answer question. regrettably businesses like Microsoft in hardship-free words seem to play to reason extra mess united statesand losses than they conflict to steer away from.... looks so besides. cheers

sometimes when you do a system restore it just renames the file and puts it some where else, its probable where it was befoer you moved it to my documents. like if you loaded it to the desktop then moved it to my docs it may be at the initial spot.
