Actually it's a bit of both. First of all, we listen. We can learn a hell of a lot from what you say. What a concept, huh? Through your words your personality conveys to us women what YOU feel are your best "attributes." You tell us what you think we want to hear at first, and then we have to do the research ourselves (if you know what I mean- we gotta find out if you are telling us the truth about your man meat).
By the way, certain personality traits will get a guy a second look from me. Then, if you want to talk physical features? I like thighs. Weird, huh?

WHen looking from afar, as in the movies or a sports event, then I look at physical traits. That is why I am attracted to Hugh Jackman, Viggo Mortensen, and Manu Ginobili. They are all already happily married (and I hope they stay that way) and there is not a chance in a million that I'll ever meet those guys... well, maybe Manu, since he plays for my city's team. But, it's not like I would even WANT to go out with a married man. Guys like that are like pictures. Nice to look at.
But, bringing it to a more personal level, someone I'd be attracted to enough to go out with, it's all personality. If a guy is handsome but shallow, no dice. So for me, I'd have to get to know a guy on a friendship level first, then, if we got along, I'd consider going out with him.
'Course, I'm in my 40's, so I can afford to be picky. I already have a life and it's not worth messing up with some airhead guy who happens to have a nice physique.

Alot of them do, I believe. But it's no different for men too. It's a natural, biological need to look for attractive people. It's an inherent genetic need to improve the species.
However, the older and more mature they get, the more they realize that looks aren't everything.

I think that the old adage in the long run seems to say it best. "Men fall in lust, then they fall in love. Women fall in love, then they fall in lust."
Physical features can be gone in a blink of an eye, a disfiguring accident, well, anything could happen. I think a woman of substance understands that looks are fleeting as is youth.
If you are looking at long term love realtionships, I think that applies. If you are referring to a short term "thing".......then perhaps.
