classification that it is a sin to be a homosexual?Would it be seen as an abnormality like many other birth defects and be accepted as how God created those born that way?Or would people deny science even if science had narrowed it down to zero doubt of it's findings? And what if you could change the genetic structure to prevent that abnormality?Would that be playing God?Would it be ok to predetermine what your unborn child would be through genetic manipulation?

We know that we can determine what sex our unborn children are going to be and we know that through science we can make test tube babies and we know that we can even make clones. At least, in animals.Could it be only a matter of time before we can map the genes of the unborn to the point of picking what color hair they have or what level their intelligence is going to be or how tall they will grow or what sexuality they will develop as?I think so.And for arguments sake, let's say you were faced with that choice right now.

Would you alter God's plan and his creation through genetic manipulation or would you accept that your child will be born a certain way that may not fit into your preconceived notions of normal?

I don't believe that it is necessarily an issue of sin... too many look at the issue of religion and science as black and white. You either accept accept theology the way it is written or not. Even if science proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that peoples sexuality was genetic the book would still be relied upon to give argument to it being wrong. Believing in the scientific element would compromise their beliefs.

Myself, as an unbeliever and if I could have a child, would not ask doctors to change the genetic pattern of my child in regards to its sexuality. I would only ask that extremely painful, life threatening diseases be dealt with. A persons sexuality is not a disease it is just part of whom they are and a person should be able to be loved for whom they are not what others want them to be.

Actually, I just had that discussion on the phone yesterday. A friend of mine said that he heard that homosexuals are born that way. I said, to him that there is only one proven way that a child can be born that way, and that is if the child is born with an extra chromosome, making the child a hermaphrodite.
Now a hermaphrodite is actually born with two different sex organs, and the mother has to make the decision as to what sex that baby will actually be raised as. Just like the mother has to make the decision to circumcise or not.
What if the mother made a wrong choice?
You have a boy raised as a male, that is mostly female. You have a girl raised a a female that is mostly a male.
There are also some girls that were actually undiagnosed hermaphrodites, but the testicles had not descended or shown until it started causing problems later.
I don't think I would be able to properly make that call while I am still under morphine injections for pain, and can't think clearly. In that state, the news would probably freak me completely out. (Don't mean to scare you guys, but moms make the circumcision decisions in that state too). I think that I would make the wrong choice, and ruin the child's life.
As far as religions are concerned, remember God did not bother those that were that way back then, until they messed with His chosen.
Could it be that children were born that way back then too, and this is why He had let them be? It isn't the child's fault if he/she are born that way. I wouldn't love my child any less, but I would probably be thinking that it was my fault, or something that I had done, especially now since the mother's have that medical choice. Back in that time, they did not. Some might call your question playing God through gene manipulation. But concerning those that are born with extra chormosomes, isn't the choice that the docters give the mother the same thing?
Are those mother's wrong? And what about circumcision? Isn't that cutting something off that the child was born with too? Yet, that's in the bible. Is that wrong? I'd have to take the stand that God took. He let them be until they caused problems with His own. And are we to assume that they all were just living in those two cities? Are they really only in two cities now? This raises a whole lot of questions.

Wow, alot of questions in one post. Lets see. I doubt the genetic factor would change the sin issue for hard cores, but it wouldnt change it for me, choice, birth, i dont care, just let them be. Would it be seen as an abnormality, probably. Homosexuals are still persecuted, rejected, and hated, so if you didnt want to have a child who would suufer, I suppose some would think it to be a birth defect. Would i personally change the structure, Asoloutley NOT! I dont believe it would be okay to pre-determine what you child looks like, what sex they are, how smart they can be. Having babies should not be like oredering furniture. Not because its playing God, but because it degrages human life, it puts high expectations on children, AND there is no gaurantee what you believed they would be is what they would become, bringing emotional and life altering problems for the child, and maybe parents.

If right now, I could choose everything about my next child, I would NOT take that opportunity. I love my child, tall, fat, smart, stupid, gay, straight, I dont care, and I would NOT choose.

I am a Christian. The Bible clearly states that it is an abomination for a man to lay with another man or for a woman to lay with another woman. The first thing that non Christians have to come to terms with is that God is real, and he always has a plan. As far as homosexuals are concerned, God loves them too, he loves all of us. He just doesn't love our sins. There is a reason why everyone is born the way they are, but I think God created those reasons so that we can make the choice to rely on him to help us. Sort of like having "crosses to bear". Each of us has our own cross whether it be homosexuality, anxiety, depression, cancer, anything. Changing genetic structure is playing God, modifying his original blueprints. I don't think that's right. But trust in the Lord and you won't need science.

OK,
I'll take the bait.
If science could prove this, then I would have to abandon Christianity as a whole. Because if that is wrong, then how many other things are wrong?
But, you're asking a hypothetical scenario and science hasn't proven this.
The other problem is that you're dealing with a cause and effect issue. Did being gay come because of a gene or did the gene develop due to someone being gay?
Since that can never be proven, I guess I'll have to stick with what I know to be true so far.

And, if it is a genetic thing, how is it that some people can change?

I am a Christian and believe in God's Word, but it's not my place to Judge you. I have friends that are gay, and I don't question them whether they think it's genetic or anything. I had animals who had homosexual tendencies...and they don't read the Bible. I have always wondered if God created everything..why would animals have this tendency also? Where they born that way too? If it could be proven that it is genetic, cool, if not, that's cool too. Christians who focus on homosexual sins need to take a look at their own sins first. Before they remove the splinter in your eye, they need to remove the log from theirs first! I am not for or against gays.

To tell you the truth, I think homosexuality is more biological than genetic. The size sexually dimorphic nucleus of the pre-optic area determines the nature of a person's sexuality, i.e. it is usually bigger in men than in women. A male fetus can have problems carrying dihydrotestosterone to the brain and grow up with a smaller SDN - leading to more feminine qualities.

To answer your whole question, I thing its rather insulting to say that God never saw any of this coming. Being omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent means that God has this whole Creation thing figured out, meaning that that any event that has or will occur has already been sanctioned by Him. Therefore, I'd say that saying anything is immoral or blasphemous is a construction of mortal opinion, not of divine fiat.

that is a very good question. I think that people should be born naturally with out the help of science (other then c-section, epiduril an if eventully possible to prevent retardation and other birth defects that would cause the child to suffer.)
We all start out developing as females and then we develope into males if we are ment to be males. so it is possable for the sexuallity part of the brain stays female so men are more attracted to men. and with lesbianism the sexuallity part of the brain developes faster and they are attracted to females.
so i hope that people will except even without scientific proof that people should just be who thair brain tells them to be and stay out of other peoples lives.
if god designed us to develope in a certin way we should just let it go, unless like i said earlier it could prevent babies from suffering.

Homosexuality is a normal human variation like height or IQ, and just as with heterosexuality homosexuality is also genetically influenced, also the hormonal environment in the mothers womb has an influence plus possibly early familial and societal conditions and a myriad other influences nobody could ever unravel, none of which any of us can choose...sexual orientation is not chosen by any of us. Homosexuality is not a sin and I lead a very happy life and have a great partner...what's not to like...get your head out of gay people's pants if you are not gay yourself and think about your own junk.

Ignorant people will always hold ignorant beliefs...thats human variation in IQ for you...are you with me?

They have been looking for the "gay" gene for quite some time. But they have yet to find it. What they have found is irregularities in the hormones of homosexuals. Hormone levels resemble that of the opposite sex which could explain the attractions they feel.

I am a Christian. I am also straight. But I don't believe it is a sin. "Judge not lest ye be judged". It is not my place to say. Only God can make the judgment, so I choose not to discriminate.
