All you need is a marriage license and someone to marry you. That costs under $100

Because people who are very foolish don't understand what a wedding is really about. It isn't about putting on your own little Broadway show, it is about the union of two people in love. Just got get a marriage license, go downtown and get married by the justice of the peace (a judge) and cost you less than $100.00, and Bob's your Uncle!
Then just send out postal announcements to people you were married.

Because for some reason people feel that to be married they must have this big show, and, of course companies that cater to marriages then step in and charge to give you the show...
The fancy cake, pictures, video memories, dresses, suits, rent of the church, limo, etc etc. If you love each other a visit to the local Justice of the Peace or Court house is really all one needs. You can still invite all your friends, there just will be no show, just a simple solid meaningful session in a courtroom.

Because we have an idea in our heads of what the ideal wedding should have and we keep striving for that ideal until we wake up one day and realized we spent the money we should of used on a new house! I did it too. But honestly - I don't regret the money spent. My memories well worth it.

They don't have to. If you are asking this question, then it sounds like a big expensive wedding isn't right for you. Some people see spending thousands of dollars on one day as money well spent.

Mine didn't cost us much of anything, just the rings.

Pastor=My mom (yes, she's a REAL Pastor)
Church=Free, provided by my mom-in-law who helps out there.
Reception=Done by a friend of my mom-in-law at her expense.
Music=Organist was a friend of the family
Rehersal Dinner=My Dad paid for it.
Decorations=provided by the church
Honeymoon Cruise=gift from all.
Rings=cost me $100

And yes, i did have plenty of people there in a big church and had a great time!

Because wedding vendors know that they can charge so much money because so many women have dreamed of their big day for so long and are willing to fork over big bucks to have their ideal day. Its supply and demand.
