I was raised Christian but was never a believer...I think they must get points for witnessing or converting or something...stars in their heavenly crown. I went through a phase of being an atheist and had a friend for a whole year in college and I knew and respected the fact that she was a Christian but we never really talked about it. One day she finally asked what I was and I told her and she picked up her books, walked away, and never spoke to me again. That was 26 years ago...and I still think that was a horribly UNCHRISTIAN thing to do. How about just being human and civil to others no matter what their religion, like you say? I'm with you.

If you're not interested in hearing about Jesus, that's fine.
I don't run around trying to "save" people. When someone shares something in their life that they are having trouble with, it just seems natural to bring up Jesus, since He and the word of God, the bible, has helped me so much in my life.
If they would say, I don't want to hear it, that would be the end of it. I am very sensitive to other people's feelings on the matter and don't wish to harrass anyone. But He is so wonderful, it's hard not to talk about Him.

My way of thinking was the same as yours up until a few months ago. I was born and raised Christian but I was missing one thing... it is called FAITH. There is no way that you can ever become a Christian unless you have faith. What is faith you ask? Faith is the substance of all things hoped for but yet remain unseen. It is the basis of my existence and everything that I live for.
My duty as a Christian is to spread the Gospel of Jesus. I will be held responsible for you going to hell if I don't tell you the truth. All I have to do is tell you that Jesus wants you to get to know Him and that He loves you.
There is no arrogance in me I just follow God and His Son. I pray with supplication that you will soon follow Jesus also.

I understand that the Bible tells Christians that it is their responsibility to collect souls for their god - known as proselytizing.

I think sometimes this overwhelms their sense of individuality - they don't actually see you in terms of being a person with valid thoughts, beliefs or (goodness me, what a thought...) your own moral code. You are just a target so they can paint another x onto their bodywork once they zap you. Try not to take it personally - they sure don't!

Because we are obeying our Lord's command. Share the 'Good News' that salvation comes from Jesus alone. Our job is to tell you. Take it or leave it. There is no arrogance or superiority complex involved. Just the love of Jesus in our hearts. Love your neighbor as yourself.

It is our duty to "spread the word of God." It is NOT our duty to force feed anyone with it. We should share it in love and kindness.
I just read yesterday in the Bible where it said that we should tell people about turning from sin and living for God. If they choose not to, we move on, have done our part if the person loses their soul (I think that's the term I read.) But if we do not do our part, and they lose their soul, then it is on us.

You want to know why, and then you tell say "but dont use the Bible".
Okay then, Christians dont consider it a duty on their own. But they do because its in the Bible. You cant tell people HOW to answer you.

Its our christian obligation to bring people to GOD, the creator of heaven and earth. There are still people around the globe who have not heard of christianity, most have heard it but they ignore it. We are not arrogant, we are just excited to share it with someone. We never cross boundaries because we respect people, we just want to share how good to be a true christian. The inner joy we feel when we call upon our God is what we want to share with people, and many people never have such feeling before, you need to feel it. Consideration because what we offer it for free, knowledge of the true God. Hope I have enlighten you with something. GOD bless your way.
