I'm not trying to be mean, but we are all sinners; you, me, and anyone who has ever been born or will be born. We are born into what is called Original Sin.
From the moment Eve committed the first sin by disobeying God and her and Adam being banished from the Garden of Eden, we have all been born into sin (the one exception is Jesus because He is the Son of God and the only perfect living being), live in sin and will die in sin.
Some of us are simply sinners saved by grace, saved by the grace of God and His son Jesus. We are saved by simply asking Him into our heart and accepting Jesus as the Son of God. At that point all sins we have ever committed to that point are washed away (washed by the blood of the lamb) and we start anew (reborn or born again).
Unfortunately, even being reborn doesn't mean we are sin free. We are simply sinners saved by grace (I know it’s repetitive, but it is important). Being saved by grace doesn't give us a license to commit acts of debauchery and cause mayhem on a daily basis (that might have been fun on Animal House, but not in real life). We are commanded to forth and live as clean a life as we can and to witness and spread the word of Salvation.
While you may not (at least I hope so) have committed an act of murder, stole, lied, cheated, can you really say you haven't coveted someone or some thing, had an impure thought or used His name in vain? These are just some examples. Even being reborn doesn't make us perfect. Again that title is reserved only for His Son Jesus.
We simply life as sinners saved by His grace.
I'm not ashamed, so I'll use my self as an example. I am a 24 yr. old, conservative (yes I support our president on ALMOST everything - that’s another topic), Christian (Presbyterian), pro life (except if only the life of the mother is physically at danger) and I am also a lesbian (according to His teachings, I am committing a sin or an abomination). I can't help being born a lesbian, no more that I can help being born white and half American and half Spanish. Everything else I listed is a choice that I have made (and some may say supporting President Bush is a sin, but not me).
You may say what a hypocrite! How can she be a Christian and be lesbian? Honestly it is something I have struggled with. Each night I go to bed knowing I am not perfect in His eyes. I pray each night (I don't care if that sounds corny and child like, because I am one of His children just as you and everyone else). I also know I am a sinner saved by His grace, even if I don't consider loving and being loved by another woman a sin.
I know that if it is a sin, God may hate the sin but not the sinner. I also know that if I died tonight, I will be stand before Him and His Son in judgment. Jesus will say she is a child of God and I will spend eternity in His Kingdom... The Kingdom of Heaven.
I am sorry to type a sermon, but this is how I feel and I hope how you or anyone else reading feels or will feel after reading.
I hope this answered your question.

The concept no doubt has is roots in the following passage of the Christian New Testament:
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23
I suppose it depends on the context which the word "sinner" is used. If the word is used to mean anyone who _has_ sinned, then by common belief we are all sinners. If "sinners" is used to mean someone who is _currently_ sinning, then the meaning changes to mean that not everyone is a sinner. But that definition is limited to a finite point in time.
Someone who has been "caught in the act" and says something to the effect of "we are all sinners," is like saying "nobodies perfect." It's an attempt to lessen their own guilt.
Not all sin by common definition is a crime. The nature of the word "sin" is subjective to a person's beliefs and moral standing. Not all crime is caught either. Just because your neighbors have not been _caught_ in a crime doesn't make them innocent. Am I suggesting you view them any differently? Absolutely not unless you have a solid reason.
I'm an atheist. Certainly not a crime and it's even guaranteed by the US Constitution. But it is considered by most religious people to be a sin. Take it or leave it; there it is.

just because no crime is reported doesn't mean there is no sin. Has anyone there told a lie even a little white one. That's a sin. Has anyone there seen someone else's new car and said boy i wish i had a car like that. That is coveting. These are both things that are forbidden by the ten commandments. Does everyone on your street keep the sabbath holy? Does anyone on your street ever say the Lord's name in vain? does everyone honor their father and their mother? And let's not forget the golden rule do unto others and you would want others to do unto you? does everyone treat everyone else the way they would want to be treated? And also the bible even states "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." So we have the bible to back us up on the point of everyone being a sinner. It is in man's very nature to sin just look at adam and eve. Even they couldn't behave and stay away from one little tree. And they had every thing given to them right there.

sin doesn't equal crime though crimes could be sinful.
Christianity: The original Aramaic word (the language spoken during the time of Jesus) for sin is hataha, which means missing the mark. From a spiritual perspective, you fall short of doing your best when your intentions are not in alignment with your actions. That said, a sin doesn't always (and often doesn't equal a crime.
For other religions I imagine that sins are not always crimes either. Why don't you research further?
Glad you live in a safe area. Count your blessings

If you have ever told a lie, cheated, yelled at or physically hurt someone, ignored the needs of someone, etc. etc. Your a sinner. There is none righteous, not even one, we all fall short in many ways. Being a Christian doesn't mean you don't sin, it means you have Someone who can make things right for you.

If you have ever looked at anyone with lust in your heart, that's a sin. If you have ever been jealous of anyone, that's a sin. If you have ever gotten angry, cursed, resented anyone, those are all sins. If you have ever slept in, that's a sin. If you keep things you don't need instead of using them to help people, that's a sin.
The idea of sin is much, much larger than what you think. There are countless ways to sin that don't break any laws.

sin and crime are not synonomous. People believe all people are sinners (not my belief but continue..) because we are imperfect beings.
