An Inuit hunter asked the local missionary priest: "If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?" "No," said the priest, "not if you did not know." "Then why," asked the Inuit earnestly, "did you tell me?"

According to Christian beliefs yes they would go to hell. In Christianity if you don't believe in God you go to hell. In Islam, anyone who believes in God, whether they be Christian, Jewish, or Muslim are saved from Hell, or Jahannam (جÙÙÙ
) as it is called in Qur'an. The Old Testament or Tanakh (used in Hebrew because there is no New Testament) clearly states "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" (First Commandment.) This leaves no room for debate. If you do not believe in this God (opposed to, say, Allah) you are breaking the First Commandment and will be sent to hell.
In Taoism there is no Hell. Hinduism is more unclear as to whether there is a Hell.
Buddhism says there is a Hell-like place called Naraka, but you are not sent there by "god." You can be reincarnated there. Whether or not you end up in Naraka depends on Karma. In Buddhist beliefs these people would not go to Naraka if they lead a good life. Also a person's stay in Naraka is not eternal.
So in some religious belief systems these people would go to hell without question, and in others would not. I personally reject the idea of god or a higher power and do not believe in Hell. I do, however, take an extreme interest in religion.
I have noticed many people who are obviously very Christian have posted replies to this question. Most of them say they would not go to Hell. It seems that these "Christians" need to read the Bible again. Breaking any of the Ten Commandments earns you a trip to Hell. Just because you don't know a law exists does not mean you are exempt from the punishment. If anything in the Bible is the truly "word of God" the Ten Commandments are it. And if God said it, there is no room for interpretation. It is clear that according to Christian beliefs that if you don’t believe in the Christian God then you will go to Hell.

My own hypothecial idea.
I feel sad that you can mistake god for what every one else has.
The men that you are talking about on the island,
if they saw a cell phone they would think it was god!!!
Just as 2,000 years ago people saw science happening in front of their eyes.
The ark of the coventdent, not mysitcal, scienetifc.
The wheels that ezekials saw not mysitcal scienetific.
The burning bush that an angel WALKED OUT OF, not supernaturl scienetific.
There is no supernaturel today, there is only advanced technology.
Imagine seeing something like an astornut 2,000 years ago would you not call him an angel, wearing all white.
Angels dont have wings!!! http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/search/?q=angels+wings
Angels eat!!! They are not spirtual ghostly beings!
Then you can ask youself how are they in heaven if they are not supernaturel, ghostly beings.
They are in bodly form, and have been seen by the men of the ancient of days.
I will give you a quick over view of what angels realy are.
Remember angels eat!
Psalm 78:25
Man ate of the bread of the angels; he sent them food in abundance....why does god need food, same reason every one sacrifeced food to him in the wilderness.
Judges 6:21
Then the angel of the Lord reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes. And fire sprang up from the rock and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of the Lord vanished from his sight.
The angel eats and uses a rod to take his food, like a suction of some sort!
Luke 12:8
“And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, This is jesus speaking^
Luke 12:9
but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.Once again jesus
The birth of samson!!! From an angel!!!
Judges 13:6
Then the woman came and told her husband, “A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask him where he was from, and he did not tell me his name,
Judges 13:9
And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her. (she was alone with the angel :)
How confused are these people!!! They have no idea what they are seeing.
Zechraih1:9
Then I said, ‘What are these, my lord?’ The angel who talked with me said to me, ‘I will show you what they are.’
They mistook god for the angels!!!
The call them angels of god...but who is god?
If we hear a voice from the sky we call it god....what is the source of that voice, we can only wonder, or call god!
I leave you with this....
Genesis 19:1
The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth, he some how knew they were different then other men, did they have wings no, what made them different!
Genesis 32:1 Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 2 And when Jacob saw them he said, “This is God's camp!” So he called the name of that place Mahanaim. Hell does not exist...
If you want to know more just ask...

Nope. If life is a test you can't get graded till you know the terms. Else God's justice wouldn't really be just would it. Then God would cease to be God. Confusion would ensue and millions would be slaughtered who though otherwise as differing factions fought for supremacy. Wait hasn't all of this happened already and doesn't it continue? The simple truth is that none of us really know -we can believe all we want. Live like it may be true and you have nothing to lose. Concepts of grace and civility are what separate man from beast, human understanding is nothing if not slightly egocentric. Maybe we are a microscopic cog in a plan and maybe we aren't.

Heatmizer nails this one on the head. Jesus says that if we will not praise him then the very rocks will - so, it is only logical that God will place within every being a need to know that all that is around him is more than his own ability and history documents that most all societies inevitably have turned to a notion of their being a "sacredness" that must be appeased for the seasons, etc., and this alone gives credence to everything that Heatmizer has revealed.

An Islamic point of view is that every human is born without sins and as he/she grows, they might do many bad things (sins) during his/her life time.
If a person has never heard about the God or has never received the true message of God, he/she will be punished for the bad things he has done and then he will enter the heaven with other believers.
Now, if for the sake of argument, let's say a Muslim did go to that place and he didn't bother giving them the message then he also will be the part of that group who is enter hell for the punishment.

This of course is where we can find out just how 'Loving' the christian God isnt. According to the New testmaent, If they dont believe in christ they are dammed.
Som no doubt will mention the part that says they will be judged according to their own laws. But that just screws up the whole 'believe in the gospel or be dammed' philosophy.
I dont believe there is a hell. so id say 'no'.

It depends. Is this hypothetical situation so hypothetical that it includes the absurd idea of a hell as something "hypothetically true", or is it located in the actual world, where hell is just an made-up instrument of religious terrorism to manipulate people into being obedient?

I have heard of such people existing, indigenous groups out in the forests of South America, or elsewhere. They do not know about God, other than whatever they believe themselves, who knows. They are NOT going to hell.
God loves everyone, why would they go to hell? We are all a part of God, his children. He brings us back to Him. Those people chose their life before they came here. It was their destiny to live that life, for whatever reason. And then they return Home to God.

No, those who do not know the law, if they do what is right in their hearts are upholding the law and aligning themselves with the will of God. The problem is that absolutely everyone has a dark side and we know that confessing Jesus as Lord will make us right with God instantly, we don't have to wonder if we are right or not.

First off God sends no one to hell. Only the person can send themselves by living a life apart from God. God gives all of mankind a choice to which path they will follow. As for your question if said society has never heard of God , He would be just and merciful. It would be just like a person who is born mentally handicapped , they would not go to hell.
