At night I get really paranoid. I don't know if i have a reason to be I have two dogs the doors and windows are always locked and I even have a gun in my house. I don't live in that bad of a neighborhood but I have seen some odd things happen at night with people running around, and the cops arresting people ect. Could this be insomnia? a form of it? Or any sleeping disorder? usually when I am not paranoid, I just worry and thin about all this stuff keeps me up and I only get a decent night of sleep once or twice out of the week only because I am so tired I just pass out

Is there anyway to ease me from being paranoid or stop it

you need to relax .............

you have security ...........your dogs , locked doors ..........
read a good book , watch tv , or listen to some classical music . maybe do some light exercises prior to going to sleep .

i am sure you can overcome this without the aid of medications or counseling .

best of luck !

Relax and read some good books like:
1) Quran
2) Histroy of Arabs by Philip K. Hitti
3) The Bible, The Quran and Science by Maurice Bucaille
The more your real faith increases in the God All Mighty you will not have these problem and I really don't know any book other than Quran which increases the faith to the skies

Not insomnia and not a sleeping disorder. You are just afraid. You are afraid that something will happen to you while you are asleep. Maybe try to get some counseling. I am guessing that you have not lived alone for very long. You will get used to it. Get some door alarms and maybe some extra locks or motion lights outside. I used to live a two story house and I was afraid for yrs that someone would break into my house downstairs in the den while I was asleep upstairs. I put a deadbolt on my door and I was surprised how it eased my mind.

Do you know why counting sheep works? It serves as a distraction from excessive thinking...rather than trying to force the mind to work in a different way, you simply gently put your attention elsewhere. We can never stop the mind from doing whatever it wants to do but we do have the choice to give it attention or not.

I have been practising a technique called the Ishayas Ascension for several years now and can honestly say I experience endless peace although the type of thoughts that enter my awareness have not necessarily changed.

if this kind of paranoia already restricts your lifestyle i think its time to get professional help. i think insomnia is easier to cure than paranoia, you can even get medication for insomnia but for paranoia - its a different case altogether. i suggest that you pray before going to sleep or before attempting to sleep, keep your phone beside you, so you can call any emergency number at once when the need arises and maybe for the time being you can ask a friend to sleep over at your place every now and then until you feel safe enough to sleep alone. but if this kind of emotion is brought on by the neighborhood you live in, you can always move to a safer community.

Seek professional help. You need to get past this obsession you have and that is a psychological problem.

Usually when you have thoughts like that, they become real. I'd be worried about what's going to happen.
