that if most of us met in person and didn't tell each other out religious beliefs that maybe most of us would actually get along really well?

I agree. In fact even if we did talk about our religions we probably would feel more inhibited in public and tone down our responses as well. Many studies about internet chatting show that people are much more daring in a chat room or forum because they feel they can be a nameless face in a sea of annonymous names. This is one reason why people love online discussions. When we meet face to face we feel like there are certain manners and ettiqute that we must follow. It's also much easier to insult a computer screen than it is to insult a living breathing human being with emotions, a soul, and concious thought. All religions can live in peace if we try. I'm a pagan who comes from a predominantly christian family. My husband is muslim, my friends range from hindu to buddist and beyond. We all love each other and respect each other. If we can do it so can the rest of the world. The key is to get rid of all the current government officials and replace them with ones who have no agenda other than to help the people and then to repalce all the "liberal" media (which by the way is all owned by the republicans so I don't know why anyone would think it could be truely liberal). Once those are gone I think we could be really very close to if not having already achieved world peace.

No, I disagree. There are probably more people out there who don't discuss their religious beliefs than there are that do. Of all the people I don't get along with, most, if not all, share the same beliefs that I do. It is other things that prevent us from getting along.
Put two ppl alone in a room they will probably find something in common. Put three in a room and one will become an outsider. Human nature.

I don't see why we wouldn't get along really well even if we did discuss our religious beliefs face to face.

I think a lot of people - believers, atheists, agnostics, all of us - would lose the nerve to be so rude and belligerent and disrespectful toward one another if we were looking at one another and took the time to relate to them on a human level. This Internet thingy has a tendency to make people forget their decency sometimes.

Yes. I actually have friends from all different backgrounds and religions but we find common ground on things we like and don't get caught up over religion so much. I only seem to have a real problem when people approach me and specifically try to force their views on me. Those people I have very little tolerance for because they've already prejudged me beforehand and their agenda is already clear... But if you were to see me on the street and say hi I'd probably say hi back. ;)

I have to disagree.

By simply putting that question, you have already start 'branding' the person you are talking, ready to accept or reject the person fully.

Mixing with people of various religions permits me to understand them better (religion part so far).

What I am still figuring out till today, they all preaches the same story but how many really do practice the essence of their beliefs unconditionally?

You know what......... You are probably right. I'll go one step farther. We would probably tolerate each other even if we met and knew what each others religious beliefs were.

I am my beliefs so I wouldn't hide who I am and what I believe. In fact, that might be one of the first things I would make clear. If someone doesn't like it, that is their problem, certainly isn't mine. It shows their level of maturity really.
