Isn't gluttony a sin? If 75 percent of this country is of the Christian persuasion, how do they reconcile that within themselves. No doubt they are fruitful and multiply. Great. A whole new batch in the offing. Sorry if this sounds a lillte testy, but I am somewhat saddend by the hypocrisy.

And Josephus, you are sadly mistaken. I and my wife have made a conscious choice not to reproduce. And I don't see how "Be fruitful and multiply" jives with the prudish tenets of religious ethics. Hope you can undertand my vernacular, that's just the way I talk.

Well, it is scientifically proven that there are more obese people nowadays than ever. Your eyes have observed it as well. Gluttony is definitely a sin, and Christians know that it is a sin. Christians also know that they are sinners, and there is much temptation around. You can see the results of gluttony is plain sight, whereas other sins, such as adultery, do not show on a person's hips. The best we can do is pray for forgiveness and try to change our ways.

So, yeah, you could go there but if your are going to call Christians hypocrates for being fat then why not go one further. If you are fat because you do not eat right you probably eat alot of McDonalds or Burger King and such. Wouldn't you say that laziness is a sin also? If you eat at McDonalds and are overweight because of it it must be because you are lazy and won't cook for yourself so you take the easy (lazy) route. I am sure if you look a little more you can find a way to tie that to some other condemning sinful act. Where will it end? We don't live under the law, we live under grace. That is why Christ died for us, to cover our sins because no person in all of existence could live by the law. I am totally a sinner but I am saved by grace. Jesus said to be subservient to the government and the laws. So now every believer that breaks the speed limit or comes to a rolling stop or fails to signal for a lane change is a hypocrate too. I was actually thinking about downing a bowl of cookie crisp before I went to bed tonight, I think I"ll go for it. Get real.

Judge not lest ye be judged...Some people wear their failings on the outside for everyone to see...Then some may look like they stepped out of the latest fashion magazine and be the ugliest most hateful person inside...What are your personal faults and flaws that are not visable to everyone but only known to you...Gluttony is a sin..but there is also gluttony of money or posessions or sex or a number of other things in this world that take the place of a true relationship with God or a higher power..The majority of Americans are getting fatter not because of gluttony but because of our fast paced rush rush society of high fat fast food and eating on the run...Balanced meals are a thing of the past when Momma is so overburdened with soccer practice and ballet classes for Johnny and Jane and her own full time job that there is no time to cook a proper meal for the family so off to the local grease joint for dinner 5 nites out of the week...
Honey go to church once in a while and you will see that pot luck dinners are the big thing...fellowship and food go together and remember...we are all only on this rock for a short time so be happy and joyful in the Lord and live a good , kind , giving and loving life no matter how big you are..Jesus loves the person who weighs 80 lbs the same way that he loves the person who is overweight...He does not care about stupid ,trivial nonsense like the question and statement you just made....The things of this world are not important..for when we leave this earth we do not take our model bodies or our designer clother with us ..Only our immortal souls..And honey,,You will be suprised who is gonna be in heaven..Like my preacher says...the churches are full and there are a lot of self righteous hyprocrits who find fault with other human beings..but the majority of heaven bound people will be the outcasts of this world..the poor , the durnks, the drug addicts....Those who have suffered greatly but who under it all were true , children of the Lord...The time will come when the world will realize that the materialism of this existence is what is holding us all back from true Nirvanna...or Heave...

If I recall, gluttony is a CATHOLIC sin. So Protestants don't necessarily have to worry. Necessarily.

Edit: I just thought of something. Envy, Lust, Wrath, Pride, Greed: these are all states of mind. But what about gluttony and sloth? These aren't desires or states of mind, but actions. Or is sloth the state of wanting to be lazy, rather than a lack of action, and gluttony is the desire for food, rather than the consumption of it? After all, the seven sins don't say that lustful ACTION is sinful, just list itself. Gluttinous action (aka overeating) isn't a sin, but being a glutton is. Weird.

Yes gluttony is a sin... but for some reason its earsier to have a fat friend and love them than to have a friend who is a convicted killer... We are Christians because we accept that we are sinners and are not perfect. Thus our need to be "like Christ" We lean on Him to help us be more like Him.

Yes, I agree that people are becoming more...(what's the word I'm looking for)...Oh, Yes, substantial. There is much, much, more of them to love. Hey, to each his/he own. If people don't mind being BIG...that's cool with me. Here's the weird part, most overweight people don't see themselves as being overweight. They're just...big boned. Right!

Actually, not all overweight people eat more than other people. You have no idea why they are overweight, so, do not judge people by what size they are - keep on living and you may be overweight one day.

I agree with you.

Gluttony is a sin.

Christians should be committed to eating in moderation and exercising to steward their health and bodies.

Cordially,
John

Well, duh! Don't mean to sound so flip, but you just made a funny. Other people find hypocrites in church and you're finding 'em at rest stops! Reminds me of a song by Sawyer Brown called "800 Pound Jesus"!
