Yes - at various times I have lived in Malta, France, Norway and the UK. You will need to check the specific country because laws vary. I did not work in any of those places but do know that at the time I lived there it was easier to work in the UK than France.

I spent about a month living and working in Belgium.

The company in Belgium was the parent company of the one that I worked for in the US. So aside from passport, no visa was needed.

One thing I noticed was the difference in attitude for the Belgians between foreigners who made an effort to learn even a few words of the native languages, versus most Americans who just expected everyone to speak English.

I learned maybe a dozen phrases, enough to order lunch or ask for water, or ask where a particular road was. And just making that effort, when the conversation became more complicated than the few phrases I knew, the people were more than happy to shift to English and finish. Because I had made the effort to respect their language.

I think that's one of the reasons so many people in so many countries are angry with the US. Too many US leaders and too many US tourists don't show any respect for the native cultures, languages, or people. So, it's really no surprise we're considered arrogant by most of the world.

Yes.. I have.. and yes I also worked there. It was on a business trip with the U.S. Marines.. I stayed in a trench in Bosnia for several months...

Fortunately, that changed and I was detached with a British NATO unit on top of the U.S. Embassy roof in Kosovo, guarding the gate... (Well.. medium range sniper).

It was interesting, and not very fun.. Of course, that was when I was 17 back in '99... Yes, I joined early...
