Here is an accurate description for you:
Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from using it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognises the existence of superhuman power or powers.
The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individual's understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.
How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit. The basic religious philosophy and knowledge of Scientology is very old, going back 10,000 years at least to the Veda or Vedic Hymns from the East. The developement of the technology is new.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable estate., when he died.
He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 53 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.
P.S. Note the correct spelling of Scientology, from Latin "scio"
meaning: knowledge or knowing and "logus" meaning: study of.

The word Scientology literally means "the study of truth." It comes from the Latin word "scio" meaning "knowing in the fullest sense of the word" and the Greek word "logos" meaning "study of."
Scientology is the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life. The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:
Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized — and those capabilities can be realized. He is able to not only solve his own problems, accomplish his goals and gain lasting happiness, but also achieve new, higher states of awareness and ability.
In Scientology no one is asked to accept anything as belief or on faith. That which is true for you is what you have observed to be true. An individual discovers for himself that Scientology works by personally applying its principles and observing or experiencing results.
Through Scientology, people all over the world are achieving the long-sought goal of true spiritual release and freedom.
Man consists of three parts. The first of these is the spririt, called in Scientology the thetan (from the Greek letter theta, meaning "thought" or "spirit"), which is the individual himself.
The second of these parts is the mind. The thetan uses his mind as a communication and control system between himself and his environment.
The third of these parts is the body. The body is not the person.
The most important of the three parts of man is the thetan, which is the spirit, or you.

It is a philosophy of the late L.Ron Hubbard..He was a science fiction writer and somewhere along the road founded a movement known as Scientology..He believed that the individual was the one in control of the way that past experiences affected their life and that they alone had the power to cleanse or "clear"their psyche from all the damage that these negative experiences had done to their lives...It is a complicated cult ...If you want to learn more..read the book Dianetics..it is their bible .You can probably get it at your local library..I read it but it made very little sense...sounded like a bunch of ravings from a madman..A lot of Hollywood types follow the teachings of Hubbard..Travolta, Cruise, Alley etc...well they are all successful but seem a little out of it...not human...maybe is the word....lol

It's just a glorified cult that caters to celebrities. If you don't believe it's a cult, all you have to do is follow the idiotic actions of Tom Cruise. He doesn't believe in psychiatrists. But yet when you go thru the process of becoming a Scientologist, you have to go thru a cleansing and talk to an "auditor". Now what do you think an auditor really is except a psychiatrist/psychologist. They just don't want to call it that.

Scientology is a cult masquerading as a religion. It was "founded" by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer who is quoted as saying, "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion." (said well before scientology was founded.)
They prey on the lost and weak-minded people who are looking for somewhere to belong. Read the story if Xenu and wow, it's just ridiculous.

Scientology is an extensive system of beliefs and practices created by American author L. Ron Hubbard in 1952 as a self-help philosophy, an outgrowth of his earlier self-help system, Dianetics. Now described as an "applied religious philosophy," Scientology was at first entirely secular. Hubbard began to characterize Scientology as a religion as early as 1953, and by 1960 he had redefined it as a "religion by its basic tenets".[1] Scientology claims to offer an exact methodology to help individuals achieve awareness of their spiritual existence across many lifetimes and to, simultaneously, become more effective in the physical world. According to the Church of Scientology, Scientology's ultimate goal is to "rehabilitate" the thetan (roughly equivalent to the soul) to regain its native state of "total freedom."
Tom Cruise belongs to this cult, which claims to have 8 to 15 million members. Actual current membership is estimated at 40,000 to 80,000 worldwide. According to Scientology, you must give them all of your money, get rid of all your friends and family who are not also in Scientology and you must work to recruit other humans to become Scientology members.
Scientologist use Auditing Sessions to get to higher levels in the cult. Auditing sessions produce a drug like feeling from the equipment, like the E-Meter, that is used. Auditing sessions cost as much as little as $474.32 an hour to as high as $542.00 an hour depending on how many hours you have purchased.
Tom Cruise is an OT level 7. This level gives you the ability to fly and move stuff with your mind. It is rumored that the highest level in Scientology, OT level 8, informs you that L. Ron Hubbard is the antichrist. The most interesting part of OT8 is that it gives you the ability to kill people with your mind. There is an OT level 15, but Scientologists believe that none of us will ever see it in our lifetime. According to them, OT 15 doesn't happen until sometime in the distant future. Scientology is just like Dungeons and Dragons or any other role playing game, except it is a religion. Because of this they don't have to pay taxes either.
This cult / religion that Tom Cruise believes in, was created by L. Ron Hubbard (a science fiction writer) back in the early 1950's. He also created fake businesses that could be used as fronts for The Church of Scientology to gain new members and also avoid taxes. One of these scam companies is called Narconon.
L. Ron believed the way to become a millionaire was to create a religion, so that is exactly what he did.
The name Scientology is also often used to refer to the Church of Scientology, the largest organization promoting Scientology, which is itself part of a group of affiliated corporations that claim ownership and sole authority to disseminate Dianetics and Scientology. Throughout their existence, the Church and its affiliates have attracted controversy and criticism.
The Church of Scientology presents itself as a not-for-profit religious organization that provides spiritual counseling and community-betterment programs. Church spokespeople attest that Hubbard's teachings (called "Technology" or "Tech" in Scientology terminology) have saved them from addictions, arthritis, depression, learning disabilities, marital problems, career disappointments, and many other problems and complaints.[2][3] Outside observers have often come to conclusions about Scientology that are sharply at odds with the Church's self-representations.[4] Lawmakers, including national governing bodies of several countries, have characterized the Church as an unscrupulous commercial organization, citing harassment of critics and exploitation of its members.[5] Scientology's therapeutic principles have been characterized as pseudoscientific by scientists and medical doctors. Although many religious scholars do consider Scientology a religion,[6] it has frequently been described as a cult or a pseudoreligion.[7][8]
