They are called "retainers" because they are needed to retain the correction those years of braces accomplished. The only person who can answer your question about what needs to happen to realign your teeth is your orthodontist.
If you stopped wearing them because of how they look, ask about the nearly invisible options they have now. If your stopped because they were not comfortable, consider that a better choice would have been to have them adjusted or checked by the orthodontist.
I know the braces and retainers are a pain, but why undo all that time you've already invested? If your orthodontist is not acceptable to you, find another you can work with. Hang in there!

You first need to see the orthodontist. But I have a question does your retainer fit? If it does then start wearing this. You may not need to panic as much. If however your retainer does not fit this is more problematic and you may need to have braces to fix it.
Look the exact same thing happened to me. A retainer is a massive pain in the ***, so I can identify. It turned out okay in my situation as my retainer sorted the problem of movement out. After that I made sure I wore it : ) But, the idea you have to have braces again for years and years is a bit of an exaggerated fear. I am not saying you may not need braces to correct the problem, but requiring them for more than a few months seems like a bit of a stretch.

The same thing happened to me. I finished my ortho treatment and i got removable retainers. I wore them for 3 months and i stopped. I hated them. My teeth came back to the way they were. I had to start ortho treatment again and in all likeliness so will you. But now you have invisalign and various other types of braces that are invisible and now when it comes time for retainers you can get fixed retainers and fit on the back of your teeth and so theres no maintenance. So go ahead and visit your orthodontist. The sooner you start, the faster you will finish because your teeth might regress more. In case you wanted to know, retainers are worn post orthodontic treatment to stabilise the arches and that basically makes the new arrangement of your teeth permanent. Hope this helps.

Your dentist might adjust the retainers so that you shouldn't need braces again.
You should see your orthodontist asap.
Good luck with that.

You screwed up. You need to wear your retainer at least until you quit growing/have your wisdom teeth out.
Go see the ortho and see what he says.

Go back to your dentist. He might be able to fix it with just returning to your retainer for a while. Don't let a good smile go to waste.

How do you know they are going back to the same condition? It is essential that you have them professionally analysed. See your dentist or orthodontist. Maybe you are just lacking confidence.
