I'm wondering about a priest I encountered once.
We were at a christian catholic church.
I told him that I didn't think that the wine and wafers were really the body and blood of jesus.
He screamed at me that I was going to burn in the eternal fires of hell, and I would have to watch in torment as everyone I loved had better lives in heaven because of my absence.
I was 12.
What kind of a priest says things like that to a 12 year old girl, who was simply skeptical about something so simple?

Without knowledge of this man i cant comment on what kind of person or teacher he was..... however as a Pastor myself (protestant) I can say that no one should speak to a child in such a manner especially when asking about a matter of a faith based question. There would never be in my humble opinion an acceptable excuse for this. Especially in light of the fact you were absolutly correct..... the taking of the bread and wine is a symbolic for the acceptance of his sacrafice for us... it is not literally the body and blood of Christ.

Oh whoa.... on behalf of all educated and open Catholics, I am soooo sorry you had that experiece.

Yes, a core tenant of Catholic teaching is that after the conscration, the "wafer and wine" are THE body and blood of Jesus. But this is a concept that requires either a lot of faith or a background in theology and philosophy to handle. It's a lot for adults to grasp and almost more than most tweens and teens.

A priest who would react to a 12 year old (or ANYONE for that matter) is one who lacks in interpersonal skills and is in desperate need of a crash course in pastoral sensitivity. I hope someone told a colleage or superior of his. That kind of behavior is completely uncalled for.

No priest of the RC cult is of The Christian Faith. No RC priest can say to you that he will get into heaven, because he dose not know that he will. The pope himself dose not know if he will ger into Heaven. It is against RC law for any priest to tell anyone they are going to heaven for certain... This unbelief is proof enough that RCs are not of The Christian Faith. All those of The True Christian Faith know they are going to Heaven for absolute certainty... If you do not know this you are not a Christian.

No one should ever speak to any one in the way you describe...I do'nt care what your age is. There is a correct way to instruct conerning Heaven and hell...and that aint it.

I'm afraid that wasn't a very good priest then. You shouldn't generalize the WHOLE (catholic) christian religion because some of its followers "mess up">
