This is a way to become very very ill in short order. It is a diet that people with eating disorders follow; also, that much exercise can be a version of anorexia.
Do not do this diet. It has the appeal of seeming managable & do-able, but add up the calories and the relative grams of carbohydrate, protein, and fat & you will see it is inadequate across the board.
This diet will actually make you GAIN weight in the long run. You will be starving, and the body will try to save you by racheting down the metabolism; when you do eat again you will need far less calories to get by, and the the calories will go to fat stores. Also, since muscle needs so many more calories/day than other tissues (like fat tissues) a diet like this will cause you to loose muscle selectively; then when you re-feed, you will again need fewer calories & so will gain weight. Yo-Yo. These plans NEVER work, & there are thousands of goofy plans out there.
If you follow any diet that makes you loose over 1-2 pounds/week, it will hurt you in the long run.
Whatever you do, DO exercise while dieting; if not, you will selectively loose muscle and for sure yo-yo diet in the long run. (But don't exercise 2 hours a day--just a good basic program to maintain muscle mass)
There are many basic 'formula' diets that are balanced and reasonable, like Pritikin or South Beach. At least get one of those books & read to learn some reasonable information. Check with your local hospital or health plan for dietary professionals. That is your best option.
Oh, and if you are one of the many people that are lactose and/or gluten intolerant, you will get SICK big time on this 'diet.'
And let me know who told you this nonsense, so I can box their ears!

It's pretty simple: if you take in fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight, whatever diet you eat. The one you describe if you use a cup of cereal and fat free milk is way under a thousand calories a day and unless you are under 2 feet tall you'll probably lose weight unless you have a severe metabolic condition.
You'll also feel terrible because this is not a balanced diet and is deficient in vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients. And any weight you lose will probably be back very soon when you resume a more normal diet.
If you want to keep weight off, you need a diet you can stick to for life, not an unhealthy one that you can't or won't want to eat for long. If you need just a few pounds off fast, this plan with a good vitamin might do it for a week or so, but there are better ways.
Getting a balanced diet from a nutitionist, a doctor or other professional is more likely to help long term.

Work as far as losing weight? Yes. Work for the rest of your life? Than no. There cereal is low in calories, so by replacing your meals with cereal then you are reducing your caloric intake. However, I don't think anyone could stick to that diet. Try eating 3 balanced meals with 2 small snacks & exercise. Good luck

Yes you will lose weight. I tried the Special K Challenge for a month, and I lost 12 lbs from it. I had 2 servings of Special K Strawberries with half a cup of fruit for 2 meals a day, and salad for dinner. I drank about 8 glasses of water daily along with it. For exercise I ran 45 minutes 3 times a week, and I lost it fast. Cereal is always good for diets, unless it's loaded with sugar and unwanted carbs.

Corn based cereal is not the best to eat in bulk (many meal replacements). Corn has very little nutritional value as it passes tthrough the digestive tract absorbing very little. I work with a woman who replaced two meals [breakfast & lunch] with Kashi Go Lean fiber cereal and ate a sensible dinner. She lost over 60 lbs. Her story and new image was used in a print ad for the cereal.

It works for the short term, but are you going to eat cereal for the rest of your life?

Well, it could possibly help you lose weight. However, limiting your diet to just corn flakes is going to cause you a deficit in many vitamins and minerals that could have negative effects on your overall health. Gotta have a little variety

Erm... in short run, you will probably lose a little weight.
But in long run, that is not really good for your health becuase you will not be getting enough nutrients and it is always to eat fresh, natural foods for your source of nutrients.
Also, it can get boring..
How much exactly do you want to lose... set a target and I will be able to offer better suggestions.
