The average hair grows at a rate of 1/4 to 1/2 inch a month. So 6 inches per year. That does vary from person to person though. Some people's hair will grow faster than others.

your hair will grow about one cenimeter a month. That's like 1/4 an inch or so. That would be about 3 inches a year- however, different people have very different rates of hair growth. My hair grows very slowly-------maybe a couple inches a year. Some people (perhaps latino, or other thick healthy hair types) may have hair growing 6 inches a year!!! It really varies. ALOT! Eat a healthy diet- lots of fruits, vegetables, protein, fiber and dairy- take a simple multivitimin maybe. These things should keeps your hair healthy for sure. Try and let it air dry as much as possible. Wash it no more than every other day- you don't want to over dry it, or over process it. That will make it break off so much easier and NOT grow hardly at all. Skip the curling iron and flat iron as much as possible...... you know, wear a pony tail or go natural when you can. Save the heat for special occasions. Use an EXCELLENT conditioner and leave in conditioner.............hey, take it from me. I JUST grew my hair out for the first time in my life. I'm almost 28- my whole life I've worn a pixie----short, short cut. I didn't even have long hair as a child.....I mean, my hair has always been BOY short. So, a couple of years ago I decided to grow it long once and for all. It's a couple inches past my shoulders and it's hot. I love it. Just live a healthy lifestyle- condition your hair and don't put lots of heat on it. That's the best you can do!!!!

The average hair is actually closer to growing 1/2 to 1" per month. Some people slower if they are suffering illness or on heart medication. Some medication can also slow down hair porosity and oil secretion, elasticity and show weaknesses in skin and nail regrowth.

It is always good to choose a protein based diet, which helps promote good hair and nail health. Not protein only, but 35% or more of your menu.
