Ghostzapper. He ran the fastest speed figures on record (consistantly) and was versatile enough to win on the lead, pressing/stalking or from the clouds.

Difficult to answer.
I believe Ghostzapper was retired to stud after becoming horse of the year.
You never could predict something in a hypothetical race like this.
For instance, who would win if Secretariat, Man O' War, and a few top contenders ran, all things being equal.
Some believe it would be Man O' War.
Yet, he was beat at Saratoga.
Anything fresh could beat a great racehorse on any given day.
Horses do get tired from too much racing.
