There are "patches" that women can use like a bandaid on
their stomach, arm, wherever that can deliver hormones
in a form on birth control. (Same hormones as "the pill"
but a patch works for a week - maybe a month ?). Also
there is a shot that a woman can take that I think last 6 months.
Condoms must be put on before you start sex. (This is not
my area of expertise.) Every time you have sex you must wear
one to provide a barrier keeping the sperm from touching
your partner. Messier than the patch, or shot.
There is also the IUD. This may be a method for women who
are all finished having their kids. It lasts for 10 years. It is inserted in the woman- and can be taken out at any time by a doctor.
It's very reliable, but it may make conception hard when you
want to have a baby. Discuss that with the doctor.
I recommend that you both go to see doctors to ask them
what they recommend as a form of birth control. You sound
really conscienscous. Good for you for waiting and knowing
what you want in life.
Good luck and Congratulations.

I use a Intrauterine device and condoms. The Intrauterine device (also known as IUD) is a little thing that a gynecologist can put inside of you. I don't know in your country, but in some countries doctors will only put an IUD if you've had a baby or if you have a commited relationship. This is because it's easier to get an infection while wearing and IUD plus it's easier for the body to reject the IUD if you haven't had a baby.
BUT, it you really want it and you take care of yourself by also using a condom, it's perfect. If you really want it, your body wont reject it, and the condom helps against infections.
Check it out with your doctor.
By the way the time period of your month where you can have unprotected sex, forget about that, it's reallly risky.
If you're not sure about what to do, I would go for the pill, if side effects get too bad, then consider changing, but give it a try.

I think that you are going into a realm that is not clear to the majority of the people that are on Yahoo answers! I have a few things to say and you can take them however you want.
1.) I actually congratulate you on your abstinance. It's not an easy thing to do.
2.) You're going to have to recognize that the only fool proof way to prevent pregnancy is to remain abstinant.
3.) A doctor iws going to give you the best anicdote. And I've been on Answers! for a while and trust me there are no doctors here.
4.) You can't plan out everything that is going to happen to you for the rest of your life and I would suggest having sex without any protection whatsoever. If she ends up getting pregnant that's a chance you're going to have to take. Let the romance happen.
A good analogy is a trip to Disney World. You know that you're going to go and you get all excited, but after it;s over you feel a little bit cheated.
Sex is the same way. If you build this up to be something that it isn't you're going to be disappointed. Just do it.

the best thing to do is go to a doctor and talk with him about what all you would or wouldnt like out of birth control...If you start taking a pill and it's giving you side effects you dont want ,then go back and ask for a different brand...They're all very different...and you can eventually find one that works for you...I've only had to use one and I have had no side effects at all.... If you are really worried about getting pregnant, use the pill and the condom and you will be fine...

Abstinence Is one option. It may be very difficult to maintain this. For you and future partner.
So below are a few links.
First link is Nuva ring which I believe "After watching the commercial is very affective and I quote "has very few side affects"
Second link Woman health group. I think that they have a question and answer board. 1800-994-9662. Toll free number also may help you.
Health board link. Questions you should and must ask yourself about contraceptives ?
Good Luck !!!

Put your trust in god, and everything will be ok. If you do have a child sooner than you want, think of it as a blessing, not as a way to ruin your plans or future. I'm happy to hear that you are a virgin, and your getting married before you have sex. I'm 17 and i'm going to wait till i'm married too.

What worked great for me was the spermicidal gel. You can get a large box of it at any drug store. It is a blue box with white writing on it. You insert the gel just before having sex and it kills the sperm and keeps it from fertilizing an egg if you happen to be ovulating.

No. do not get so stuck up in age. Your sexual history is not any one's organization yet yours. i grow to be a virgin till my mid-1920s, and that i have no regrets about that. Wait till you discover someone you're mushy with. there is not any opt to hurry into something- dashing into it formerly you're waiting or for the incorrect causes is what receives you in difficulty. there is not any shame in waiting till you meet the right individual, and the right individual gained't care about your virginity or lack thereof.

well you should use a condom and tell her to get the nuva-ring! I think its called that its another type of birth-control. She can get a hold of her doctor and they will tell her every type of birth-control there is. So that would probably be the best thing too do.
