It is sad to say that many foreigners speak better proper English than many American native English speakers. Schools do not teach that "your" means "you are," but ask around and see how many people think that it does. It's a shame. Schools need to a better job of focusing on making students correct verbal and written grammar errors.

I care and I care very much. Only a culturally bereft schmuck doesn't care that "you're" is a contraction and not a possessive. I also HATE the idiots who think that "they're" is interchangeable with "their" and "there". My 13 year old son knows better than this only because his mother (me) cares enough to teach him the difference. Keep the faith, and the language and thank YOU for caring.

Misspelling "you're" is by far the most annoying thing a person can possibly do. I HATE it. I make sure my 3rd graders know I hate it too. I've actually seen it misspelled on commercial invitations before.

Why would any teacher or school teach that your means you are? Your is not the correct abbreviation for you are. You're is the correct abbreviation for you are. I think people just get confused or they're (they are) lazy when it comes to writing.

I've also noticed that all too many believe that "Alot" is one word, that "there" is the ONLY spelling, that "no" means to understand and/or comprehend and that "2" is the universal spelling.
