Why do we have orphans and homeless people? If the Christians are so "holy" then why don't they take the orphans and the homeless home and help them?
Don't bother answering this question with the quote from the Bible. That's the easy way out and that's why I think the orphans and the homeless don't matter to Christians.

I don't make excuses for my life Juliart.
You people really get bent out of shape easily don't you.
One simple little question and you all get in an uproar.
We are getting closer to "Christmas Time" and I want to just see how many of you take one of those homeless people back to your house for dinner.
I've never seen so many excuses for so little action.

You are right, it should have said, What are you doing to help the orphans and homeless?
I stand corrected, thank you.
The closer we get to Christmas the worse it gets on the news when they show the homeless and people giving them PB&J sandwichs, then going home to their cozy homes and hot meals. I know the soup kitchens do hard work and also the people who run them give of their time. I know that not everyone is bad in this area.
Thank you for not blowing my head off.

You didn't use the Bible verse I was thinking of and that a certain church uses as an excuse not to do anything at all.

Melrae:
I'm a Christian, and I've given my life to fighting poverty. I wish you'd rephrase your question, as it's generalizing. ALL generalizing is bad! :-)
However, you're correct in your basic point. Most Christians ignore the parts of the Bible that clearly tell us to oppose injustice and help the poor.
They use many excuses, but, from my perspective, the root cause is that this is seen, due to political and theological developments of the last 150 years, as a liberal thing to do. The excuses are just half-hearted defenses.
It was said of the puritans (and the first generation of Christians in Jerusalem) that there was NO poverty in their communities.
It's not popular to like Puritans right now (mostly because the popular understanding of them is a misunderstanding) but they did what you would like to see-they lived out what they believed.
The Bible is distinctly opposed to poverty. Duet. 8 says "If you follow these laws you will have NO POOR among you."
But then, you asked to not have Bible verses.
You're right, we're wrong in this regard.

Do you take home orphans & homeless people? Many do, and who do you think run most of the soup kitchens & safe houses ? Not all Christians are rich, or in the position to house & medically help the homeless, a lot of the homeless have mental problems that need treatment, wether you are Christian or not, if you have a family it's not the best way of dealing with the situatuion. Most if not all churchs have collections of food for local food banks & provide help in finding homes for the homeless. Join a church and get involved, you'd be supprised just how much we do.

Do all Christians help orphans and homeless people? No. However, many of them do. I know because I have. I didn't get or want anything out of it. Just did it because I care.
Why do you assume the worst about people?
Why not try bringing more balance to your thinking and say "There are a lot of Christians doing humanitarian work, but why aren't there even more doing it".
or
"Instead of me being concerned that Christians aren't helping the homeless people, I'm going to help the orphans and homeless people myself."

Are you housing orphans and homeless people in your house? Have you taken notice of the thousands of Christian organizations that do help the homeless and orphans? Do you see other religions doing this? Have you taken notice of the Christians that give their lives to protect the less fortunate? It's not up to Christians to save the world. Christians can only try and live their lives according to the word of God and mimic the life of Jesus Christ. Christ said to take care of the widows and orphans and I see that happening on a daily basis lived out by Christians.

You're judging Christians as a whole, which I find to be very prejudiced, sorry. How do you know all Christians aren't doing their job? And why didn't you ask about the other religions that aren't doing those things? I think people really give it to Christians hard, and it's difficult to see questions like these, when I know i try to help everyone I can, and knowing that I can never leave someone who is hurt or suffering. You obviously don't see all of the Christians who ARE helping people, and you've decided to focus on the negative. Those who have not sinned may cast the first stone at another person. Christians are regular people, too, we're just like you. We're all human. So if there are Christians who don't give to the poor, what gives you the right to judge them? Do you give to the poor? I don't think this question was well thought out at all, I don't mean to offned you, it's just irritating, I must admit... and yes, Christians can get irritated...

Who says I don't?
I work every day to make these situations known and I do what I can. I would be telling a lie if I thought I was doing enough, but I am doing what I can.
I do have my own family that I have to provide for first - once their needs are met, I contribute to the causes you have mentioned as well as a few others.
Just because there are orphans and homeless, doesn't mean that people aren't doing something.

It is not the responsibility of Christians to wantonly give to people of the world.
And, if the Bible is not to be used, where did you glom on to the idea that taking in the orphans and homeless is a Christians responsibility in the first place?
Without quoting I'll paraphrase.
A man long ago said "let the dead take care of the dead".
And that is a group that you are a part of!

Many Christians do help orphans and homeless people.
I personally support 6 orphans in two orphanages. And I know many other Christians who personally help the homeless and the orphans.
Cordially,

So what I gather only Christians can care for the homeless? What about the government that we live in is it not their responsibility to care for the homeless? Separation of church and state remember. Everyone quotes that one. No matter how hard we work to take care of the broken things in the United States people will still complain "Well why don't the Christian's........." So if you want to separate the church and state let the government take care of the people they have wronged. In the Words of Queen Mary when her people were starving "Let them eat cake!"
