Do the following, apply oil on his head and massage. Later give take him for hot bath, mix ocean salt to the water ( it is locally available in market, please don't confused it with common salt).

Glass of milk with spoon of honey. Do it for a week and you will see difference.

I did it myself for a week and i feel sleeping in the tub itself, i was late for office for 7 days and they deduct my salary.

Go to the grocery store and get some chamomile tea. It's usually stocked near the other tea and coffee. Make chamomile tea for him, with a little milk and honey. It tastes good, and it will make most people very sleepy.

Make sure the room he's sleeping in is as dark as possible. Have him take a hot bath or shower, put on clean pajamas, and go to sleep with a book. Make sure he can turn out a light that is next to his bed. You might sit with him a bit before he falls asleep.

Well I was told my son had ADHD so I took him to a different dr. They checked his tonsils and found they were enlarged which causes the sleep problems and the hyperness. We had him do a sleep study, and he had sleep aptnia (sp). They removed his tonsils and he is like a whole different kid. The teachers use to say they couldn't teach him b/c he wouldn't sit still. Now he is a joy to have in class. Before he was waking up at 6am and going to bed at about midnight and no naps during the day. He is sleeping normal now. He is only almost 5 by the way. Anyway, goodluck! Any questions, IM me or e-mail me.

The results of inactive sleep often are the cause of bad diet, not enough exercise, and bad choice of literature and/or movies. ADHD is already contributing to the lack of sleep, but try to encourage your son to exercise a little daily, pick up a healthier diet (which contains of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, good meats, and healthy dairy.), and to not watch so much sci-fi movies. Sometimes movies can affect sleeping patterns.

True ADHD patients are calmed down with stimulants and get worked up with depressants--exactly the opposite of the rest of us. For example, my friend's daughter has ADHD and she asked me to accompany them to the dentist (she hadn't been diagnosed at this point). She was having some serious work done and they gave her something to calm her. Then she started to practically bounce off the walls. She was responding exactly the opposite of they way intended. I told her mom this wasn't normal, she said it was for her daughter. She took her to the doctor and a pediatric neurologist and got the ADHD diagnosis. She's almost grown now and, when she feels keyed-up, drinks coffee to calm down. It works.

How does your son react to caffeine? How about when he's sick and getting medicines that tend to make most people drowsy? The ADHD kid tends to respond opposite the normal way..

While you don't want to get your son dependant on anything to get him to calm down, something with just a little caffeine may help as he adjusts. Sometimes kids just go through this for a while, especially when going through a transition (like beginning of school coming up).

Oh, and for those who read this and say that their ADHD kid doesn't respond oppositely, I'd say talk to your doc. It's practically the definition of ADHD. If a kid didn't respond in that way, they'd never prescribe ritalin because it's a stimulant. Lots of misdiagnoses these days because they don't all see neurologists like they used to.

If you've got a health food store nearby, see if they have chamomile tea. It tastes kind of appleish, so most kids will drink it, and it's an all-natural sleep aid. If he's not the kind to drink tea, some places will also have it in pills or drops. Good luck.
