Ok, first off I would kindly ask for only respectable debating and no bashing on religions or beliefs in this post.

To explain my question I am reffering to the following scenarios. I am an agnostic person going back in forth between Christianity and Islam. I have read the scriptures of both in detail and when I go to get the opinions of my friends or religious figureheads I get the following type of response. I get told that the other group is worshipping a false god and instead of answering my question they just bash the other religion. I have come to the conclusion that their God is the same except that in Christianity they believe in the trinity. They share the same beliefs but Islam seems to be more strict.

Anyway, don't you hate it when they don't answer your question and instead sit their and bash?

Sorry for the longwinded explanation but please answer respectfully, thank you and take care.

Yes, I find it very repulsive. My advice to you would be to pray to God for an answer. Of course each religion is going to tell you to pick their religion and bash the other. This is a highly personal choice for you and it is between you and God, so talk it over with him. Trust me, he will listen and answer. You will reach a peace within and will then know what is right for you.

In many situations, not just talking about religion, people automatically respond by trying to enforce their point, regardless of the question. Often times, people simply do not listen to the true question or they read more into it. This always irritates me. If only people could communicate on a less confusing level.

Everyone seems to have an agenda. Sorry your quest for knowledge has been so limited by this silliness. Glad you are searching, though. In the end, it is really the intention you should be following, not some organization of men attempting to interpret God. If you have faith in God, then whichever one seems to bring you closer and help you live as a decent human being is the best choice. These answers are more likely to come from within than from any religious leader.

You are right.....bashing another religion orperson is not what Christianity is about.

If you are finding it so close with strictness eing the only seperating factor perhaps you need to look at some of the churches that keep the true Sabbath. There are several denominations that follow much of the same Old testament laws as the Islams do.

The big difference is the belief in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

The two "religions" had the same starting point. They both accept the writings of Moses up until the point of Abraham. This is where the split took place.

Islam believes Ishmael should have been the rightful heir to the inheritance. Christianity believes Isaac was the heir to the covenant.

Genesis 17:19. And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
20. And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
21. But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

This is when and where the rift between the two religions began.

Chose wisely and prayerfully. Follow God's leading. I ,and many others will be praying for you as you make this decision.

Please feel free to contact me. Send your email through my contact on here if you wish to "talk " anymore.

I'll try to give you an explanation, that is informative, by explaining my religion, and why we don't believe as most others believe. I was asked what is the difference between a Catholic Christian, and a Protestant Christian. Here is the answer I gave. I don't believe this constitutes bashing, it's just questioning some practices that I don't believe and why.

I'm Christian. The Roman Catholic church had many practices within their doctrine that a lot of people didn't agree with. Worship of idols, the Spanish Inquisition, even now, kissing the pope's ring, trinity...etc.
Martin Luther, (not King), protested against some of these teachings and practices. The Church was divided. Those that stayed, remained Catholics, those that protested against it, Protestants. All still Christian.
The Protestants branched into different Christian sects, like Pentecostal, Baptists, Episcopal...etc.
All still Christian. Therefore, a Catholic Christian, is NOT the same as a Protestant Christian. We don't hold the same beliefs.
For one, we don't believe in the word trinity, because it would denote that there is more than only 1 God in heaven. You say God in 3 persons, the father, the son, and the holy spirit, as being 3 separate Deity's. We believe that there is only one God Almighty.
God Almighty-Giver of Life
God's Word-The word of God-The word made flesh, is called Jesus.
God's Holy Spirit-That impregnated Mary.

All God.

Isn't your word still you?
Isn't your spirit still you?
Isn't your physical body you?

On this we don't agree. Also, why would you hail Mary? She was used by God to make God's word flesh. God didn't have sex with Mary, His Holy Spirit impregnated her. That's why Jesus is God. After Jesus was born, she did have sex with her husband, and therefore, was no longer a virgin. Why hold the vessal higher than its contents?
In the beginning, was the word, and the word was God, and the word was with God.
Your bible, changes this to and the word was a god. Any talk of false gods, is paganistic. The Egyptians worshiped false gods. But the 10 commandments say, Thou shall have no other gods before me.
So while we disagree on many things, we are all grouped under the huge umbrella, Christians.

To speak on the Islamic religion, Muslims, I know people at my job that are, I teach children that are, so I had to find out more about it.

The Quran has been changed too. They are taught things entirely differently. They believe in the old Law, Sharia Law. While now, there are those that don't practice this, there are yet more that do. Those would be the ones that used the airplanes as bombs. While as an educator, I do realize that if there can be different sects of Christians, I've asked myself, Couldn't this also hold true for the nation of Islam? Since I could not readily answer that, I had to conduct research into it.

I've found that the Muslims do not believe in Jesus as being God, nor God's son. Correct me, if I'm wrong.
They believe that Allah is the one true God, and that there are other gods. Again, I feel that any mention of other gods, refers to deities. Or false gods. I believe that God Almighty is the one true God, and there are no other gods before Him. The Egyptians believed in other gods. They are yet uncovering statues today of the idols that they worshipped.
I have learned that Allah was actually a moon god, another deity, again, that I believe to be paganistic, just as I do Isis, Ur, and others. Before I discovered this, I had noted that the Islamic symbol is the moon and a star, and it seemed to verify that. When I asked a Moslim about this, she just said, that we all believe in the same God, we just call Him a different name. This is what they are taught, that Allah and God are one and the same, but yet they say that Allah has no son, so how can that be?
In reference to the Sharia law, I know that it was actually in the bible, before Jesus came to fulfill the Law. So why do they still practice it? It must be because they don't believe who Jesus actually is. Jesus was not a prophet. Mohammed was a prophet. Which one said He would rise again in 3 days, and actually did?
And finally, concerning Mecca, what's the kissing of the black stone thing about? That seems to be idol worship to me. When I asked my friend about this, she had no answer.

Now, I've tried to be as respectful as possible by leaving it as what I have found out. The problem is most people don't word their questions as you do, and it incites an anger with other religions . When you word something in an inciteful way, you can get nothing more than an inciteful response. Since yours was in a questioning mode, this is what I have found, but ultimately, the choice is yours. One should not force you in one way or the other, but should be able to give you the most answers to your questions.

Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about. Even the most level-headed person can become a raving lunatic when you get them started on religion (OR politics). The best thing to do about it is take a "you get your opinion, I get mine" stance. That way you can be firm but non-confronational if they get a little nutty.

As to your question about Islam and Christianity, here's the deal as I understand it. Muslims believe that Christians and Jews both worship their God (Allah), but they think that Christianity and Judaism are riddled with errors and doctrinal mistakes. They think that Christianity features idolotry (by making Jesus divine) and that Judaism has been bogged down in old errors.

The overwhelming majority of Christians, on the other hand, feel that the God they worship (the Trinity) is NOT Allah. They/We honestly do believe that Muslims have been led astray by false teachings, and we believe Allah to be either a pagan god like Baal or a figment of Mohammed's imagination. Again, I know that there are many in Christianity who disagree with my last statement, but I think that it DOES represent the majority opinion.

As for Judaism, I'm not quite sure where they stand on the two mega-religions that they inspired. I THINK that they agree with Muslims that Christianity features idolotry because of how it views Jesus, but (like Christians) I don't think they believe their God and Allah are one and the same.

Anyway, the whole "Christianity vs. Islam vs. Judaism" situation is a complex mess, and a hard one to explain even if the people you talk to ARE being civil. Anyway, good luck and God bless on your search for truth.

I understand your point very well, but you must remember that repulsion is a two-way thing. More and more people today are repulsed by religion and the associated horrors the various religions have inflicted on humanity, and minds of innocent children.

You talk about Christianity and Islam, and you being repulsed, but those two religions are the most horrific and murderous on our planet, and just about every decent human being has every right to feel repulsed by such religions. In fact, you should be ashamed of yourself being party to either, but you may well have been brain-washed from childhood.

Christianity and Islam like to kill their fellow human beings. I know there are many nice people who believe in God, but the real evil amongst us, are the vast majority of religious followers and believers who have clearly shown over time to be the major instigators of wars, violence, abuse, greed and practically everything evil on our planet.

Even according to Genesis in the Bible, God is clearly the greatest mass murderer in history. The Bible is full of terrible atrocities and evil, far more than nice things, but of course believers will just ignore or twist the atrocities into whatever soothes their confused minds. Everyone knows of murders and violence associated with Christianity and Islam.

As I said at the beginning, the repulsion is by those who know all about the horrendous atrocities religion has inflicted on humanity.

Yes. That is why I am agnostic and not apt to join any of the traditional religions. In fact, the only organized religion that interests me is the Unitarians. They basically study the main religions from more of a spiritual/philosophical perspective than that of dogma. Makes it kinda difficult to bash when your church is based on many, eh?

I usually answer the question asked. If that entails justifying what I believe and saying what others believe is wrong, so be it. There are, however, many differences between Islam and Christianity.

God teaches us to love our enemies. He doesn't tell us that they are i nfedels and it doesn't matter how we treat them. If we kill, rape, steal from or otherwise abuse infedels it wins us brownie points. He tells us to love our enemies and do good to them, to pray for their salvation and treat them as we would be treated. Only sounds like one of the groups you have mentioned! No prizes for guessing which one!
