I've heard about the ones from multiple stores, but I wouldn't do it. From what I have seen with my cousins and friends it is better to do 3-4 registries at well known stores because with the online registries most of your older (and wealthier) guests won't know where to look. Plus, it isn't polite to advertise your registry so they can't find it and you end up with 12 toasters.
I have found that registering at well know stores is much more successful because it can please everyone. My cousin just got married and registered at Target, Macy's (which now owns Kaufmanns and Strawbridges so it is much more popular), a honeymoon registry (where people give you cash for a specific thing on your honeymoon. I like this one: https://www.thebigday.com/Acct/rw/rwType.asp), and at a local boutique in her home town. With Target and Macys you can buy online or in the store (where they have the computers with what your registry), and you can register for really affordable stuff for your younger (and poorer) guests and really expensive stuff for those who want to give you something bigger. What I have been told is register at a low end value store (Target, Walmart, Kmart), a department store (Macys, Sears, Penney’s), and one or two fun places that best show who you are like a kitchen store or honeymoon registry)
If you make a webpage at theknot.com, they have a registry finder which is a really polite way of letting your guests know where they are registered. You can include the website on your save the dates as a place to get directions and more info and rsvp, and if they chose to view your registry, its right there.
Congrats and good luck!

I'm just speaking from experience. But if you do your entire registries online it's a royal pain and noone will order anything. My friend did a baby registry online. Anything on the list you can't get at the store, and everything takes 4-6 weeks to come in plus you have to pay for shipping. i'd go to Macy's there is one of those almost everywhere, and you can look up your registry at any store. Good luck
