Is not the real issue unwanted pregnancy?
If so, why is it that humans, who are so intelligent, do not take the easily available precautions to avoid the pregnancy in the first place?
Whether Religious or not, logic dictates that prevention, as simple as it is, would ward off all of the drama caused by both the pro-lifers, and the pro-choicers.
For you who are pro-choice, why not use your brains and not risk the hazards inherent in post conception abortion?
You claim to have minds, why not use them?
For those that are pro-life, why not attack the problem(unplanned, thus mindless, pregnancy) rather than the desire to not have children?
Am I alone in this simple observation?

By the way, I had a girlfriend from 1987 to 1990.
We had nothing but unprotected sex.
We paid attention to her cycle, and I never came inside. By this simple method, we were pregnancy free for those three years!

No, you aren't alone in this observation. I am a Christian and pro-life person, but I completely understand and have pointed out to others that the problem now is no longer about abortion. Unfortunately, some people decide to fight over an issue and they get their teeth locked into it like a bulldog and worry it to death. It seems like we need more education out there concerning options that exist to prevent unwanted pregnancy, while I still believe abstinence is the best method there are condoms, contraceptives such as birth control pills, patches, etc.... I mean the list goes on and on yet we are still have millions of abortions every year. I don't really know what the right answer is to solve the problem, but I think if all sides would step back for a minute and forget about the whole issue of blaming the other side then maybe we could get some crap fixed. Of course this goes for every part of life including politics, but hey why fix a system that keeps the finger pointers in power, they point a finger the blind do what they say without ever looking around and we continue to be a stagnating society.

not all abortions are unplanned pregnancies.....consider this. A woman is 3 months pregnant. She is having dinner with her husband. Suddenly she has a seizure and is rushed to the emergency room. The doctor tells the husband that there is a complication with the pregnancy and if the pregnancy is not aborted, he could lose both his wife and child. If you were the husband what would you do? If you were the wife what would you do? Do not assume that all abortions are just women who do not use proper means of birth control. Sometimes life puts us in situations that make us rethink prior theories on issues such as abortion.

Can't speak for everybody, but I have no problem if somebody doesn't want kids. They just have to realize that sex (although enjoyable) may lead to children. I don't think we should be aborting babies like it's no big deal.
I actually know a person close to my family, who purposefully got pregnant and then aborted the baby because she changed her mind. Yet she is involved in all of these rallies and protests to "save the animals". It is instances like these that have cause me to question liberals and what they are all about.

While I am definitely pro-choice, (coincidentally a standpoint that is not synonymous anti-life), and while I agree - if people used contraception properly, this would never be an issue.
A few problems:
- Condoms break and people don't always use a second method (whoops!)
- Some areas (particularly in the red states) make it impossible to gain access to emergency contraception due to social stigma
- Rape is an issue
In any case, a woman's body is still her body until it's not her body. Meaning, if a fetus cannot survive on its own without assistance, it is not a viable human being at that stage of devlopment. We don't go nuts on people for killing off cancer cells.

no you aren't.
The problem with that is that we are a society that acts before we think.
We don't have a condom, oh thats ok we'll be careful ...that kind of thing.
Then you have parents who don't teach their kids about sex. Schools that are terrified to touch the subject.
And unfortunately, there are some women who use abortion as a form of birth control believe it or not.
So you are right, we need to focus more on preventive measures than retroactive.
I personally think that a compromise is going to have to be made in order to calm the situation for a bit.

I agree 100%, the main problem is that it can be difficult for low income women to get access to reliable birth control methods, without private insurance. Some states do not allow the local health department to discuss birth control. Some of the "pro-life" looneys are also the ones making it more difficult or damn near impossible to get birth control, "because we're against pre-marital sex". News flash, most americans have sex before they are married.
I say we pass a law that states that if any woman wants birth control, she should be able to get it, regardless of ability to pay.
Less unintended pregnancies, less abortions. Everyone wins!
I don't understand why that's so hard to see.

you are correct,if there was access to all birth control for teens, young adults, well anyone having sex, education, better parenting, better programs period for this type of thing, then maybe abortion would not be as big an issue as it is today.its a vicious life cycle that will continue, the only way to even make a dent in this problem is to allow people of all ages AFFORDABLE contraception.not to mention better education on all sexual issues, there is no other way to slow or stop it.it should actually start with parenting classes/therapy,how can children be responsible if they don't know how?the cycle needs to be broken.we are supposed to be a rich nation,we should do something about it and NO i don't mean give it to people either.

Before you do that, you have to explain to people how sex works. Yes, you can get pregnant through your underwear (there's a reason why they don't make cotton condoms.) Yes, you can get pregnant the first time. No, sperm do not die as soon as they hit air. No, you cannot force your girlfriend to get an abortion. Could you be pregnant? Try seeing doctor or at least using a pregnancy test - not Yahoo Answers!
Like one person said, check out the pregnancy questions. SCARY!

There are many issues surrounding abortion that need addressing, one of them being prevention. With that said there will always be people who will get pregnant and either want to have an abortion or be coerced into having one. Pro-Lifers are not against fighting on many fronts but they believe that Pro-Life oriented laws will help curb the number of abortions significantly thus reducing suffering significantly.

Well said....Spend some time on Yahoo Answers and read some of the questions about pregnancy, unprotected sex etc...You'll start to wonder, and worry... Nobody is perfect, and accidents can happen to anybody, but I'm starting to think accidents are a rarity and idiocy rules supreme..
