Music and Movies. Everyone digs them. Agree with the ones he likes and hates ect. Don't sell out completely though, be sure to have your own opinions.

You should find out some things he's interested in, and talk to him about those. You can ask him about his weekend, what he likes to do in his spare time, etc etc.
The main thing is to listen attentively, be willing to share information about yourself, and just go with the flow -- if you're compatible, you'll find it easy enough to keep the conversation going once you get into the swing of it!
