This is a true story, I kid you not...
I was a sophomore in HS. In my Alg. 2 class, we had this substitute teacher. She barely spoke any english. But on this day, it wasn't really necessary because we were to sit at our desks and work out of the book the whole time. She wrote on the board that there was to be no talking. At first, we were quiet, but then naturally some students in the back of the class started talking. It got pretty loud, so then she comes over. She just stands there facing them (without saying anything) and they look at her, a little confused. Then she turns around, her back facing them, and stands there for a second. As she is walking back to the desk, the nastiest stench lingers in the class.
We were convinced that she passed gas as a form of punishment! I don't think it was a coincidence either! It was bizarre, and something that, although I try to, I can't forget.

The worst punishment I've ever seen did not, thankfully, land upon me. There was a male teacher at my high school known for his brutish attitude. When a few of the male jocks had had enough of his harassment, they picked up his little (MG?) sports car and put it on the curb...where it promptly got a ticket. The teacher was livid. He went from room to room with a rather hefty wooden ..bat? and called out a boy here...a boy there...and those of us left in the classroom could hear the screaming outside. We could literally hear the beating the boy received until he gave up the name of one of the others involved, and the cycle would repeat.
It did not bother him that students were in the hallway going to and from class; nor did it bother him that other teachers could see and hear what he was doing. I don't know how he got away with it; one possibility: the staff were as afraid of him as the students.
It was a horrible experience for the entire school. Thirty five years later, I can still remember the boys as they returned to their classes.
The man was a maniac. I sure hope the students nowadays do not have to tolerate such behavior from the staff.
(Moral of the story: The only thing required for evil to prosper is for good folks to stand by and do nothing.)

Caning on the back of the thigh for talking when she was out of the room. You brought back the memory but fortunately, not the pain.

3rd grade... I had to sit in the prayer corner (catholic school) and repent for having done something really stupid like laughing in the middle of class... oh god i'm sorry for having found something funny... and the worse part was that she would say that you were in the "baby Jesus" group... like we (the baddies) were retarded and need Jesus' help... lol
