My friend puts her orange inside a polythene bag and then opens it bit by bit. Using the bag saves the citrus flying all over the place. When I ate oranges (now allergic) I made a 4 way slice from top to bottom beforehand and never had a problem peeling an orange. Why not combine these two?

If you want the easiest possible orange peeling buy "navel" seedless oranges. The peel is very easily removed by hand.
For regular oranges, buy a good quality paring knife and cut off as much of the "white pith" as possible. The exception is when you need the orange zest, in which case remove it first with a zester or grater, then peel.

If your nails are long enough, just dig into the orange and peel it. Or you can cut off the top of the orange and peel with your hands starting from the top that you cut off. Or you can cut off the top and the bottom and make vertical cuts from the top to the bottom of the orange about 1 inch apart. Then peel those sections off with your fingers.

Roll the orange against a hard surface for a minute or two. This will help to detach the pith fro the flesh.
Then peel as normal

I usually try to make a little break in the peel with my finger nail to start peeling. If that doesn't work then I get out a knife.

Sadly, buy an orage peeler... The're really cheep and work lie a charm... If you dont' ahve one... Use a knife to cut a little insision, and dig deep enugh to just get the peel off, maybe the end of a fork would help (if you have a thin ended fork)...

Pampered Chef makes the coolest little tool for peeling oranges. It is only like $0.10, and it works really well with very little mess.

Cut it into 4 or 6 segments, and chew the flesh off the segments. Peeling it is too much like hard work.....
