run it under cool water and use mild soap (ivory and dove work best)
apply a thin layer of neosporin over the burn and cover with guaze or a telfa pad-you can find these at any drugstore.... you can also use vitamin e oil instead of the neosporin.
change the pad at least twice a day and allow the burn to air for awhile.
do not apply any food products to the burn area-it's very open to infection and these things can increase the risk.
for pain and swelling you can take ibuprofen 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.
things to watch out for that would indicate infection and need immediate medical attention are:
-a fever of 101 or higher
-drainage from the burn site-yellowish-brown or green in color
-red lines extending outward from the burn to the rest of the body (indicates infection on the blood-will need i.v antibiotics)

Do not put ice on a burn. It will damage the skin and make it burn more. The best thing to put on a burn is aloe vera. If you don't have any, a wet towel will do just fine. Unfortunately their is hardly anything you can do for a burn. If it blistered do NOT pop the blister. The blister is there to help it heal. Hope I helped. Sorry, burns suck.

HOW BAD A BURN????
If it's worse that a bad sunburn, get to the Emergency Room -- burns get infected easily.
Run COLD water over it.
DON'T put Ice directly on it, or butter or any oil/lanolin-based lotion.
Ice wrapped in a washcloth is oK or try:
aloe vera gel, sun-burn spray, bactine-type spray
make a paste of baking soda or oatmeal & water
