Wait at least two days to use a straw and at least 50 years before you smoke.

They don't want you to use a straw or smoke because the sucking could cause the wound to start bleeding again. I would wait a few days, but if you really need a cigarette, just be careful.

My dentist didn't tell me either but I had only one out and it was surgically removed... I tried asking on here but no one could tell me for sure back when I asked, I don't think. My dentist never told me not to eat anything, so I ate what I felt like I could manage without getting any discomfort. I ended up waiting a month to drink out of a straw.I don't smoke but I guess a month would be on the safe side for that to. I know you should wait until you know for sure that you're out of the risk zone for dry socket so you don't cause one. And that is like a week or two, I think... So I would wait at least one to two weeks or you can call your dentist back and ask to make sure. I think I went a little overboard by waiting a whole month but I wanted to be safe! I don't know how long total healing takes when you get them pulled and not surgically removed (I heard everything from 2 weeks to 6 months for a surgical removal), but its been almost 2 months for me now and I still have a small but annoying hole in my gum! It is nearly closed now and I can eat/drink anything, but I know it takes a long time to heal! So I hope yours heal faster than that since they were already out of your gums. Good luck.

24 hours on smoking and a week on the straw.

5-7 days. they say 7, but the healing really is done by the 5th day.

especially be careful with the smoking as it will infect the wound and while you're at it, 5 days without smoking would be a great opportunity to quit. think about it.

Straw - at least a week, and then it may still be painful.
Smoking - why start up again? The nicotine can actually start the tooth sockets bleeding again.

Usually you go back to the dentist a week after you have them pulled. You should ask your dentist.

If you want your mouth to heal quickly put off smoking as long as possible. People who smoke have a much slower rate of healing as it affects the healing process. Many docs won't even try to perform surgery on someone until they agree to stop smoking for a period before and after the surgery.

Quit smoking, or havn't you heard that those cancer sticks will kill you. Don't use a straw until he takes the stitches out.
