Before you go to bed a night put a softening cream at the end of your hair. That should prevent breakage and protect the ends of your hair. Look for it at your local drug store

i guess what i would first ask is...the texture and thickness of your hair? good to know you don't do a lot ot it...and then i would ask what kind of shampoo and conditioner you are using? if you using a store bought shampoo and conditioner that could be your problem....it dries hair out which makes it more subseptible to everyday damage...try a Fortifying shampoo and conditioner, maybe a conditioning treatment and when you rinse out conditioner rinse with cool water, it helps lock in the moisture and close the cuticles in your hair shaft!

The material of your pillowcase (usually cotton) can take the moisture out of your hair, and the friction can cause it to break. Try wearing a satin cap or wrap to bed.
