Hmmm ok sweety, definitely go for something light, to brighten up your face. Because red and burgendy are old school. I have medium brown hair w/ light ash blonde highlights, and it looks nice, I've always had it this way. But since your hair is black, then I say go for something warm like golden highlights, or honey caramel, they'll look nice and perfect for yourr back to school. But talk to the hairdresser whos gonna highlight your hair. To see which colors match not only your hair, but your skintone as well.

Hope I helped ♥
now plzzzz pick me as best answer, lol =)

If you have tried burgundy and red you presumably prefer something of a punch or are trying to make a statement.
Surprisingly, color (as in red, blue etc.) is not the only way to make a statement. Try caramel streaks just up near the face and slices underneath for an eye popping effect.
Or if you really love color. Find a very good stylist who knows how to use a flat iron to put "synthetic" color into hair. Synthetic colors are the WOW colors you see on punks and skaters. Only in small amounts they are very appealing. These are colors that don't happen in nature, such as hot pink and green or blue...Your stylist will have to bleach out your hair to a very light shade and then they dry the hair and apply color to the shaft of the highlighted pieces, put foil over that and run a flat iron over the highlighted piece to force the synthetic color in...if your hair is truly black and not brown, I would choose hot pink or bright orange.
Be careful. If your hair is black because you dyed it black and not black from nature, you can have a real problem highlighting your hair. It should only be done professionally and only if the hair is in excellent condition.
Otherwise your highlights may end up green and splotchy o the shaft and orange at the scalp...Yipes...very expensive to fix.
Personality dictates alot of how you will pick your color.
I still like the caramel idea better...it grows out nicely.

I merely actually executed that. I actually were demise my hair darkish brown( natrual darkish blonde) for decades. the different day i desirous to enable my sister provide me some highlights properly it overpowered my hair and my entire hair grow to be actually the colour of the highlights wich grow to be kinda orange in any case i placed a depressing ash blonde on them and that i grow to be left with darkish ash blonde hair and a pair of low lighting fixtures from the start hair colour, i love it the in uncomplicated words harm grow to be the highlights themselves and after I colored them it actually gave them a colourful wholesome colour somewhat than hair thats looks washed out from bleach. inspite of the undeniable fact that it is going to take bleaching your different hair (brown ones) to get an throughout golden blonde. And in case you bleach the highlights they are going to harm yet youll have some more effective wholesome strands! merely relies upon on how undesirable you like it. you may want to frost it by skill of a cap and then do an throughout colour to maintain away from dropping strands.
